Anyone not doing a circumcision?
posted 20th Dec '07
I have gotten into "debates" on BG about this issue, but I am curious as to how many women out there won't be doing a circumcision on their son. I am not doing it because I feel that it is more for cosmetic reasons and less about the health. I will teach my son to properly care for himself as will my husband who is not circumcised. Please don't respond to this if you are doing it or have done it. I don't want any drama or disagrements about it. I only want to know if you are not going to do it and why! Thanks so much!

I personally will NOT be doing one..I am having enough issues with giving my baby the vitamin K shot and a heel poke at birth let along cut his man parts..that is if I have a boy (we still don't know). It is there for a reason, and if he doesn't like it later then it is his choice..

Im not doing it... it's not really a custom in my family to do it... I think that if he wants to do it when he's older he will still have that option open... I'll leave the decision to him...it is HIS penis

i know right...
i mean he can decide if he wants to get it done when hes old enough to make the decision. its not my body. plus i can show him to keep it clean. plus i think circumsized looks wierd... i can see the scaron my hubby and it freaks meout to know some strange manor woman was all over his man parts snipping away and crap...

yeah, I just don't like it that we do it little boys for looks. I mean, I really believe that if we were hacking away at little girls labia for no reason...women wouldn't do it to their little girls.

Well the thing they say is infection is an issue. I think thats bs..as foxy said as long as you keep him clean you should be good.

We go tomorrow to hopefully find out the sex..
But.. if the baby is a boy we will NOT be circumsizing him. I think if we were meant to circumsize our boys God would have made them born that way. Also, my husband is 27 years old wan was NOT circusized, adn he has not had any problems, and is very clean. As long as we teach our son to be clean and how to properly care for himself I'll feel reassured.

I think I may still change my mind if I research it a bit more and decide it may be for the best, but for now me and my husband don't plan on having it done. My husband is circumcised and he actually had problems due to the scarring. I pretty much left it up to him if he wanted to have it done, and he definitely does not want it done. I still worry about complications if we keep our son uncut, but, then again, there could be complications from having it cut. For now, though, I guess I would tentatively say we don't plan on it.

Exactly! The only reason they started doing this was back during the world wars when men did have a chance to stop and clean themselves. Its not like it has been done for thousands of years and that is just the way things are. Now alot of insurance won't even pay for it because it is a cosmetic surgery.

I wanted to get it done for my son because my cousin, who isn't circumcised, got a really bad infection once. It wasn't because of lack of hygiene or anything, I don't know why he got it My mom never really taught my brother how to properly take care of his (he's not circumcised either) and I guess his skin didn't pull back yet at like age 8. They wanted to send him in to get it done at that age, and I know that would have been hard on my brother. I've heard of men having issues and getting it done at 14 and even 35.
In the end, I didn't end up gettin my son circumcised because I felt bad for him gettin his wee-wee snipped and it cost $250 that we didn't have. My husband isn't circumcised and is really self conscious about it.
I'll teach my son to clean it properly and just take care of it.
My friend gave birth 3 weeks after I did and circumcised her son. I saw it 4 days later and nearly cried.
*sorry it's so random or doesn't make sense, I'm really sleepy, so I'm off to bed.
