How to tell

posted 20th Dec '07
Is there away to tell if u are having real contractions or if they are fake. I know this has probably been asked a million times but i cant find them. I've had a few times where i have started to go to the hospital but decided to wait it out instead and it turned out to be nothing. Now that my doc said i was really close i want to know how to tell the difference so i dont end up having my baby at home or on the way to the hospital (i have to go out of town to get to a hospital that will see me) The pains i have had when i started to go were very painful so i'am so worried i wont be for sure and i hate going to the hospital for nothing so i will wait it out as long as i can the nurses where bitches last time i went to the hospital so i am not looking forward to going back. Well i just rambled on through out this whole thing but if anyone knows away to know for sure Please let me know! Thanks

When you are having contractions that are at regular intervals, drink some water and then lie down on your left side for an hour or two.

If they are braxton-hicks, then they will usually go away.

If they continue and/or increase in frequency then you will want to call your doctor ASAP.

Good luck! Sending quick and easy labor vibes your way!

Sometimes you will feel a lot of pressure "down there" and you may loose your mucous plug. Your contractions should be consisitant however sometimes they dont increase in pain until your a certain amount of centimeters dilated

I was told that if the contrations stop or change when you change positions, they are BH's.

Also, that you can't even talk through "real" ones

I've never been in labor, just repeating what I heard.

Oh ok thanks i am dilated 2 to 3 the doc said yesterday and thinned out all the way I have lost my plug too so maybe next time i start getting them good they will be real.

Don't be fooled girl. I was dialated to to 4cm and 80% effaced for two weeks..During those two weeks I was contracting every 3-10 minutes. THE WHOLE TWO WEEKS. It was SOOO annoying! Trust me on this...When the doc says 'You will know the difference' YOU WILL! I woke up one morning with the REAL DEAL..>You can't walk, talk, or think through the real thing. It blows. Get the epidural ;-) :-D! Good luck darling!
