There are some crash test videos at the bottom of this page, but the information on it is great and there are links to other articles as well http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/stayrearfacing.aspx
And this is a big article (lots of pages, but they are pretty short)...just hit next toward the bottom right to go through the pages! http://www.thecarseatlady.com/car_seats/rear-facing_seats.html
And here is an extended rear-facing album...it has pictures of kids rear-facing past 1 year and 20 lbs.http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/RFAlbumAll.aspx
My son is almost 26-months old, he weighs 26 lbs., and is 34 in. tall and is still happily rear-facing. He has NEVER been forward-facing at all. He will continue to rear-face to the limits of his seats and so will his little brother.
If you have any questions or would like more links, just let me know!
