ADHD and personal hygiene

posted 16th Nov '10
My 7 almost 8 year old has a problem with remembering to clean himself appropriately after going #2. He has ADHD and so I was wondering if this may be a part of his poor attending skills. Anyone else had a child with this problem and what did you do?

I never ever had that problem with my ADD

Not to be rude (Because I really am not trying to be)

But how does a hyperactive disorder... Make him lack the ability to wipe his bum?... I thought ADHD was just for hyperactive... Not a learning disability?

I think that is just a 7/8 year old thing....not necessarily an ADHD thing.

he doesn't attend to anything else, tv, video games, it's not just school work, literally anything... so my train of thought is along the line of him not attending to the task at hand.

My husband was like that at that age.

Yeah, our family friend had to constantly ask her son after he went poop if he wiped and would check sometimes.

I mean, I'm sure not all are like that but maybe some?

Sorry, I had to re-read your question. Its a learning disability and a problem with hyperactivity... he is constantly moving, doesn't stop for anything even highly preferred activities.

I'd recommend some wet wipes and possibly a note in front of the toilet with a reminder to wipe...

i dont have any suggestions unfortunately, and im sorry you werent able to receive any advice. i do agree with jamils mommy though, you should try some of the flushable wet wipes. it will either help or accomplish nothing, but its a start.

thanks for the idea... I don't think he'll go for the wet wipes.   I'm going to leave a note to help remind him but IDK if it will help any as his reading skills are horrible... anything with writing he mostly just ignores.

this thread was disappointing just like most other posts I make on here these days. No one has any advice, its just about making up some drama. I wish BG was what it used to be.
