Oh sweetie, I am so very sorry for your loss. I have heard cerclages being put in pretty early, usually when you hit your 2nd trimester.

I have an incompetent cervix. I recently went in preterm labor in june and lost my son two hours after giving birth to him. I am now prego with baby #3 im 10 weeks along so far. I have been told by my ob that it is neccessary that I allow them to put a stitching in my cervix until I turn 35 weeks to be sure I dont miscarry again.

I am so glad I found this! I was just diagnosed with IC a few days ago. I went into L and D Wednesday night with some pains and my doctor found my cervix at 1.3 and funneling. They immediately did an fFn and gave me a steroid shot because I was 25 weeks (26 weeks today) she put me on hospital bed rest until the MFM doctor could see me the next day. Well resting in bed all day and night helped. My cervix grew to 1.9 and they let me come home for the holidays and my daughter's first birthday, but told me that I will most likely end up back in there til I deliver. I have been resting with my feet up and only getting up to use the bathroom. I will do anything to keep my son in here as long as possible, but it is hard having an 11 month old demanding attention I can't give her. We have to hire a nanny for when my husband is at work. I'm praying I last til at least 35 weeks!

I am so very sorry for your loss sweetie. my first cerclage was an emergency cerclage. I was dialated to a 4 and in labor, they stopped my labor and put the stitch in. i was 19 weeks,. I was one of the lucky ones who didn't lose my baby because of it, I carried to 32 weeks. I just had my second one inserted 3 days ago and I was 12 weeks when they did it. it is scheduled to stay in until I am 35 weeks, and usually they start the steriod shots for the babies lungs at 16 weeks. usually if they know you have IC they will put it in as early as possible, after you turn 12 weeks that is, before that Maternal Fetal Medicine will not even see you.

I saw my peri at 8 1/2 weeks but he would not look into doing a cerclage before being able to measure my cervix at 18 weeks. It's hard not to be angry at him for not doing it sooner but then I have to remind myself that a cerclage carries its own risk and without an actual IC diagnosis he wasn't willing to take that risk. Hindsight is 20/20 of course. I can't wait to talk to my regular OB next week.

I would make sure to do that. my MFM drs. measure at 16 weeks. but then again i do have a diagnosis for IC so that could be the difference. they usually dont do it until you have your target ultrasound which is about 18-20 weeks so i guess that makes sense. but I would talk to my OB and have them check you next time around.

I think you have the steroid shots confused with the progesterone shots... Progesterone shots are the ones that start at 16 weeks.... The steroid shots ate not given any earlier than 23/24 weeks to help the lungs because a baby is not considered viable until that time, therefore the shots of steroids would not be benificial until that time... Steroid shots are only a 2 day dose, where as progesterone is used for IC on a weekly or sometimes daily basis to help prevent preterm labor and those typically start at 16 weeks...

And maternal fetal medicine will see you before 12 weeks, especially if you have a history of loss/complications.... Just varies on hospitals/drs office

oh really? i have a history of issues and they wouldnt even see me before then because they said before 12 weeks there is nothing they can do to help period... it must just vary   and i think i do! you are right about the shots.

I get measured by my MFM at 11 weeks and with my daughter ever 2 weeks after...this time not as much because we know the stitch works for me or has once already and working onthe 2nd.

Yup it can differ depending on dr.. I was seen by MFM before getting pregnant with this one.. Then at 6, 10, 13....and then started weekly scans at 16 weeks cause I was a wait and see for the stitch...

I just lost my 2nd son at 17 weeks 3days December 19. They are saying Incompetent cervix possibly. I lost my first at 22weeks 4days. However all the signs or things that could be a reason to have IC I don't seem to have. Can you just have a IC without previous conditions? My MFM doctor is leaning towards IC. I just find it weird that my water broke with the my first son and my bag of waters was bulging with this one. My cervix was closed with the first when they checked me and with this one I was dialated to a 1. I felt pressure and a few days before but didn't think anything of it because 1 week before I went into the hospital, I had an US done and my cervix was measuring 30mm and 29.6mm and they said it was good but wanted to check 1wk later to be safe. It was too late that's when my bag of waters started bulging. I have to get answers yet from MFM. I go back in 6 weeks for follow up. I'm just searching for support and or something I don't really know to be sure right now. Sorry if this is just totally out there and doesn't make sense I just feel like I'm all alone. I don't know anyone else that have had this :/. They said next time they would stitch me at 12 or 14 weeks. What I don't understand is how come some people can be dialated to a 2 or higher and never lose they bag of water or have it bulge is there something else that can cause this other than IC?
