I didnt say it fixed everyone....and its not even a "fix" its a preventative procedure that could or could help with someone with IC...and yes I know there are risks that increase as your progress in pregnancy....they arent sure if I am a patient that they are going to do a stitch on because not only may I have IC, but I have a uterine abnormaility that may cause my preterm labors, which I have had 2already...one at 22 weeks and the other at 25....with my 2nd they tried an emergency cerclage but my bag of water was bulging and I was already 3cm dialated and super thin, so they tried but almost broke my water- this was at 21 weeks........I was just trying to figure out if you had the stitch or not, thats all!

My dr wouldnt do it...due to the risks...I was hospitalized instead from 25-32 weeks...and still pregnant.

My son came early at 27 weeks and so I was diagnosed with IC. We had discussed doing a cerclage, but in the end we decided that with this pregnancy we'd do progesterone therapy. Now, I'm taking the shots, but have noticed the same issues as with my son and, since I've been super paranoid, have run to the doctor immediately. This pregnancy I've had 2 BV infections and am fighting a bladder infection now. Now my doctor and I are wondering about whether it was IC or simple infections that caused my preterm labor (and yet now I can't stop the progesterone shots for fear that it'll increase my risk for another preemie.) Whatever it is, this one is going well so far - just 16 more shots until we can stop for a full term baby girl ^_^

I have a question..... If you were diagnosed with IC in one pregnancy, are you likely to face the same issue with your next pregnancy? It never even occurred to me that I should be concerned until coming across this thread and it brought back all my memories and concerns of my last pregnancy. The doctor told me I had IC at about 20 weeks in my last pregnancy. we decided the best solution was bed rest until at least 36 weeks. So I followed through and didn't do much until 36 weeks at which point I started getting up and about because I felt okay with my girl coming at that point. Well, in the end she wasn't born until 41.

Despite how it all turned out, I was terrified at 20 weeks that I could lose her. Now I am pregnant again (9 weeks) and wondering if I could be facing the same issue again? Having had it once, is it more likely that it will happen again? I'm not looking forward to another pregnancy spent on bed rest!! Especially since I'm a very busy mom of a 5 year old, 2 year old, a full time student, and trying to sell my house and potentially move! Bedrest will make all that a little hard, but I'll do it if I have to!

Yes...and a lot of women end up going over due with ic. Did you have a cerclage? If not you might not have to be on bed rest with one in. It sound like you cervix may not be too severe.

Yup, incompetent with one means incompetent with another. But then again, your doctor could be wrong. We no longer think I was dealing with IC, but if I stop the shots that keep the cervix closed, I'll almost triple my chances of another preemie. Get a second opinion if you're worried, and have your cervix monitored closely

If you mean progesterone it is ok to take then without ic. all they do is relax your uterus to prevent ptl
