re: Incompetent Cervix Support Group

I'm 21 weeks 3 days and I have had a cerclage since 14 weeks. I'm bleeding now for several days and the dr. says they can't do anything about it, that my cervix looks good and the stitch is good. Just wondering if anyone else had bleeding like this with a cerclage?

Getting my cerclage out Monday because of frequent contractions. Hoping to get my VBAC despite Hypertension.

In regards to the bleeding with a cerclage... I bled a few times with my cerclage, just had to take it easy It's just pulling against your cervix. Or at least that's what it way with me. I couldn't squat down or bend over or do anything that made me have my legs spread apart too far. Sex is a big no also.

figured i would look for advice here because you ladies know a lot about IC. since march 1st, my cervix went from 4.4cm to 3.4 cm yesterday (in 5 weeks). I was 12w6 days at the u/s March 1st and yesterday I was 17w6d. I don't feel like this is normal to have my cervix shorten a whole cm in just 5 weeks. My cervix is damaged from a D&C. Should I be more concerned that the OB is? He said it's not a big deal......

I apologize for not responding to this sooner, but I just now saw it. Have they done an ultrasound to make sure the bleeding is from nothing else? I had bleeding in my pregnancy with my oldest daughter, from placenta previa, but it fixed itself, and in my last one I had bleeding from a slight placental abruption, which fixed itself, but I gave birth 5 days later due to infection, that was at 27 weeks. If you have not had an ultrasound, demand one immediately.

The last ultrasound was 9 days ago and that day I wasn't bleeding. I had been bleeding before that but it would just kind of come and go. Cervix looked good. 2 days after the ultrasound I started bleeding more consistently and have seen a couple of small clots. The bleeding isn't real heavy....it's like the beginning or end of a period. Since I started bleeding constantly several days ago I haven't been back to the Dr. I have an appt. next thursday so I was trying to wait it out since the bleeding hasn't gotten heavier just more constant. If I was closer to my dr I would probably go in, but it's 2 hours away and I don't have a car and I'm broke because I can't work so I'm kinda stuck.

I know. If mine goes down even a LITTLE I'm freaking out. Just try to limit time on your feet. My cervix was 2.5 or something like that when I got the cerclage and up until a few weeks ago, it was at a 6. I was also taking the progesterone shots and limited bed rest though. Maybe this could be an option for you?

What kind of insurance do you have? If you have state medicaid, you can get a ride to your doctor.

Does your doctor know about the bleeding? I would make sure to tell them if not. And have you had any invasive vaginal exams lately like a transvaginal ultrasound or cultures done for infections?? These can lead to bleeding and soreness.

Hello! My name is Sarah and I just joined this support group. I just lost my baby Boy at 21 weeks just over a week and a half ago due to IC. We had no idea before hand that I had IC, otherwise, I would've taken more precautions. My hubby and I are still trying to heal. Some days it's tougher than others, even though I know our little baby is in Heaven, it's still very difficult, as many of you brave ladies know. Night time is the worst for me as all I do is dive into my head and get lost in thought. I was drinking tea to sleep (I don't like sleeping drugs if I can help it) but then found out the tea I like to drink has abortive properties! (like chamomile and nettle leaf - big no no for pregnant women) I would love to know, do you have any words of wisdom on how you found some sort of soothing balm to help you through this pain?
This was my first pregnancy, and my hubby and I are not giving up to have a family. Although to be honest, I'm so very scared! We got pregnant so easy (on our first try) and I worry, "what if I can't get pregnant again?" I'm afraid to go through the first trimester scares again and then reading about how cerclages can fail, it seems even more daunting! How long did any of you ladies wait until you tried to conceive again? I'm going to see a perinatal specialist shortlyand I hope that he answers my questions. But even this makes me nervous!!
I'm really happy that I found this group because something tells me I'm going to need a lot of support when I go through the next pregnancy!

Thank you ladies!

Sarah (sorry for any typos, my dog ripped off my "F" and "N" buttons and all I have are little knubs for those keys. I'm hoping to take my lap top into Best Buy today.) (also, the post says I live in Japan. I DO NOT live in Japan. Though I can speak some Japanese and eat their food. I actually live in Virginia. I'll fix that eventually.)

Welcome moma! I'm so very sorry for your loss.
I lost my first baby (a girl) in Decemeber of 08. Night time was the worst for me also, you have nothing to occupy your thoughts. I spent most night for a long time crying. Just take it day by day moma, minute by minute, the pain will never completely go away but it does it easier to deal with.

The failure rate for cerclages is actually VERY small!!

We waited a year before trying again to allow my body and mind to heal (this is what my OB had reccomended) and I'm glad I waited. I liked that I was able to cry and feel hurt on her 1st birthday rather then feeling guilty because I had a young baby/newborn or was pregnant. We started trying midway through December 09, got pregnant on valentines day '10 and got our first positive test on the 2nd of march 2010. Our 2nd daughter is now a very happy very healthy 17 month old, thanks to a cerclage, tons of bedrest, and a cocktail of different medication! There is no reason why you and your husband should give up hope, you WILL take a baby home from the hospital and watch him/her grow, I'm sure!

Best wishes to you moma.

So as I posted earlier my cervix shortened 1cm in 5 weeks. I do have risk factors for IC (a D&C that damaged my cervix). I have talked with my OB and they refuse to do another scan before 6 weeks from now. I feel that this is too long to wait. I feel that my concerns are completely legitimate. My question is, should I go elsewhere for a second opinion?

IMO, yes. If your doctor isn't taking your concerns seriously then you should find someone that will.!!!!
