Can someone walk me through the process of having a surgical abortion...? What does it feel like? How long does it take? What is the recovery time? Thanks.

is a surgical abortion a late-term abortion?
if you wanna know about a regular abortion, i'm sure theres tons of videos you can look up.

Surgical abortion is NOT late term abortion. Surgical refers to the method that is not the pill, lol.

It depends on how far along you are, but usually recovery isn't too bad and they usually put you to sleep if you are a bit further along.. if you aren't you feel cramping.

Surgical abortion just indicates it's done in a clinic by a doctor, instead of a spontaneous abortion which is a miscarriage.

it's not a late term abortion.
it's a 'regular' abortion. it's just not the pill.
it's the same procedure as a d&c, but idk the specifics of either.

Sure.

The appointment actually takes a few hours, because they do counseling and other stuff before the procedure. The procedure itself lasts like, 5 minutes depending on how far along you are.

They sedate you for it now, I think, though when I had mine, they didn't do that. I just got a shot in the cervix which felt like a pinch.

The procedure itself feels like really bad menstrual cramps. It's over quickly.

You'll sit in a recovery room for a bit, and then they'll give you some pills to take home, one is an antibiotic and one's for bleeding.

I was feeling back to normal within a week.

Usually medical abortion is used to refer to the pill and surgical is the abortion by procedure.

That's great news! I don't want to have to miss out on school or work. I am only about 7 weeks along, I believe. My last period was Sep. 22.

YOu can get one between 4 and 24 weeks in most states although it gets more complicated after 13 weeks. You can either be put out for it, or be given a local and stay awake during. The process takes about 10 minutes and if done correctly, cramping/bleeding should be minimal. You will then more than likely be given anti biotics to take for two weeks and told to refrain from sexual activity for the same amount of time.
Recovery time whise, you should be up and around within a day or so. I terminated at 8 weeks and 5 days, and I went out to dinner with my family the same night. As for cost, this varies by state. Some states cover it under something like emergancy medicade, and some don't. The cost for it outright is between 3 to 600.

I did some research on the pill and I heard it was very painful and emotionally stressful, and there's a big risk for infection because the fetus might not pass completely.
