carseat/booster seat?

posted 12th Dec
my daughter is almost 10 months. She still uses her infant car seat. I would like to know.. At what age do I change her car seat and to what? Is the booster seat next? I have no clue about this thing.. I do know that the belt on the car seat isnt fitting her so comfortablely. I dont know if I can make it bigger or not, but I have tried and I dont know how if i can.. I believe people start getting the booster seat around 1 year right? or is there a seat that comes before the booster? I dont know... help anyone?

if she is bigger im sure a bigger seat is fine just look at weight and age restrictions because you dont wanna put her in anything unsafe for her age and weight

I just had my daughter at the doctor yesterday and this is what they gave me on a paper. From birth to 40 pounds they should be in a car seat, rear facing until 20 pounds then forward facing. At 40 pounds they can go to the booster seat that is only the seat, it doesnt have a back on it or anything. When they hit 4 foot 9 inches tall they can come out of the booster seat and sit in the regualr seat with no car seat at all.
We are running into a problem there with my 6 year old. She is big enough for the booster seat but not to come out of it and when my baby is born in January we will not have enough room in the backseat of my Jeep for 3 car seats. I also have a 2 year old who is in a car seat. So once the baby gets I will be letting her move out of the booster and ride around without one because I cannot put 3 back there. It stinks but that is what is going to have to happen.

Your little one can go forward facing once she is one year old and at least 20lbs. If she is not, then leave her rear facing. It is the safest bet. The reason for the restriction is if you get into an accident and she if forward facing before she is ready she can break her neck on impact because it isn't strong enough. Once she is big enough, she goes into a forward facing car seat, not a "booster" persay. The booster they have to be 4 years old and I at least 40 lbs I believe, before they can go into that. So yes, there is a car seat inbetween. You can purchase them now and usually use them right away because they can flip to be used both rear facing and forward facing. If they are rear facing then they just remain in the car like a regular car seat, not like the infant seat that can be removed from the base.
Sorry this is kind of long. Hope it helps!

Check the laws in your state for when they get older, but you definitley want to keep her rear-facing until she is at least a year old, even if she is more than 20 pounds. Her neck muscles aren't ready for an accident in forward facing yet. You can get a convertible 5 point harness and keep her rear-facing until she is ready, then just flip it around to front facing when she is. In WA you have to keep them in a 5 point until they are 4 years old and 40 pounds, then they can go to a booster seat, but they have to be in one until they are 8 years old and 80 pounds. Just remember in rear facing you want the straps coming from behind their shoulders, and in front facing the straps should be bewtween their shoulders and ears.

My youngest just turned 3 at the end of october and we switched her to a booster seat without a back on it last week. She meets the weight and height requirements for our state. i still get a little nervous about it though..she just seems so little, but the bigger car seats with the straps wasn't working for her any more.

my dd i had to wait till she was 20lbs in her infant carrier car seat, its to do with safety, if you want to change it now you can get a combernation car seat but you still have to have it rear facing untill she is 9kg/20bs (approx 1 year), forward-facing once your child can sit unaided 9kg/20lbs - 18kg/40lbs (approx 1year - 4yrs)... or you just have to wait untill she is about 20lbs which takes about a year depending on child, and then just get a forward facing one,
