Can stress/arguing set you into preterm labor?

posted 2nd Nov '10
I've been really hormonal all day and feeling really stressed out, my SO got on my case about being lazy and not doing anything, when all day today I've cleaned, done laundry, done my school work and have been helping my sister with her nephew and her own school work. Him getting on my case while I've been feeling like this all day set me off and I broke down crying, I feel horrible today. I just feel like nothing I do is good enough and we started fighting. I'm trying to stay calm because my sister keeps telling me getting worked up and arguing with him is going to set me into preterm labor. I've been sitting down now for 20minutes and haven't talked to him since, I'm trying to calm down and now I'm getting cramps in my lower abdomen and feeling really sick to my stomach. I keep getting this brown discharge too. Help?

Yes, it's possible. Stress can cause an increase in blood pressure, which can be a factor in pre-term labor.

In my case it didn't. My husband and i had our biggest fight of our marriage at 32 weeks pregnant & i was induced at 39 wks.

Some people may say it does, but I've had some big time arguments when I was pregnant in the past and I never went into preterm labor. I get wound up easy, so I'd get a little dramatic, especially being pregnant, and all was fine.

Do your best to calm down, I understand how you feel. Drink some cold water, sit down and try your best to relax.

How far along are you?

The stress from arguing can most certainly send you into preterm labor. When I was pregnant with my oldest, I did nothing but fight with my BD, and a lot of times it sent me to the hospital with contractions.

Same here. I had a very rough pregnancy emotionally but went into labor naturally at 39 weeks.

Tomorrow I'll be 27 weeks. I've had issues already with BH's and mucus plug loss in this pregnancy. What I'm getting now doesn't feel like BH's, but now how contractions are supposed to feel. It's like a tightening in my back and sides. This was a really bad fight, I never get like that and I just didn't hold back, I think it was the hormones. I keep telling myself how I feel is nothing, it's probably just pregnancy pains.

What it DOES do is cause fetal distress.

I got my daughter's HR over 200 from a fight I had with my ex.. OVER 200beats per minute..... 30minutes after the fight....

I felt horrable...

maybe you should call your doctor, just to be safe.

I just called and they said they were going to page him to call me back. Last time I called him and they had to page him to get back to me, he never did.

Give it 30 mins if he hasn't called back by then call again & demand to talk to someone ASAP or go in
