posted 9th Dec '07
everytime i cut maj's nails they just grow right back within a week i mean today just put the icing on the cake he scratched him self like 3 times today and actually tore the skin i feel so bad because the main reason that he is scratching his face is because he has dermatitus (cradle cap) on his face and it is really bothering him. i try to cut his nails and put A&D ointment on his face but the same thing keeps happening. i need help with this i feel bad.what can i do for the cradle cap for his hair and face/

My friend told me tea tree oil will clear up the cradle cap. I don't know personally. Also the baby brushes if you wash his hair often and scrub it with that it should help.. My son scratches himself often too.. It makes me feel so bad, I tried to keep the mittens on at first then he wasn't doing it that often, so I don't know..

Cradle cap on his face? Are you absolutely positive that's what it is? Did a doctor tell you it was? I'm very curious because both of my kids had cradle cap and I just can't imagine a baby having it on their face. And the way you're supposed to get it off of their scalp would be brutal to their little faces. If you haven't seen a doctor to make sure that's what it is, you need to.

if it looks like cradle cap it could be a contact dermatitus or baby acne can get severe enough to dry out the skin

Theres this product for craddle cap at wal-mart you can buy. An as for his nails by some little gloves or put socks on his hands.. Oh an if you don't want to spend money on that product, you could buy baby oil an brush it out. It lossens it up.

I was going to suggest that. I've never ehard of cradle cap being on the face. My son's was severe and followed along his hair line perfectly, but never got into his actual face. That's very odd.

for craddle cap you can use baby oil, I have been filing my sons nails because I hate to cut them I am afraid I am going to get his finger, I still have to file them every other day! You can also try using the little mittens for his hands so that he doesnt scratch himself.

oh the cradle cap on his face is on the eyebrows and yes a doctor had told me that, the doc also told me he has baby eczema but it seems to clear right up i just have to make sure that i always either have a diper cloth or a recieving blanket on my clothes so he wont rub his face on my shirt, cause if he does it flares up

Awww, okay. I have seen that. I thought you meant his cheeks and everything! lol My son had it extremely bad over his eyebrows and anywhere he had hair, down to the back of his neck. It was a struggle his entire first year of life. Miserable stuff. We actually ended up having to put psoraisis (sp?)medication on it that the doctor prescribed.

Eczema is a different story. I've had that junk all of my life and gave it to my kids. If it flares up, they have a medication at Wal Mart in the baby section from a brand I believe is called All Naturals. It's pricey, but it does work .So does Aveeno baby. Good luck!

As for the scratching himself, my kids did that, too. Constantly. I could clip their nails every three days and it did me no good. They just grew back. He should stop soon. Until then, just keep trying to keep his hands covered. What helped me was putting my kids in those onsie sleepers with the hand covers on the ends. They fit perfectly right over their hands.

My son had cradle cap too. I tried baby shampoo and baby oil. Neither worked. My doctor told me to try Selsum Blue. Just a little dot of it on a washcloth during bath time. Then I took his soft brush and gently made a circular motion. Then rinsed and combed it out when his hair dryed. Worked amazingly!!!!!!!! Be careful not to get it into the eyes though!! Good luck!

We had a huge struggle with cradle cap with our first. We tried Selsun Blue and it did seem to work a little bit. But he started to get actual sores in his head from it. It was a nightmare. It got to the point where his doctor told me to start putting peroxide into the sores to clean them out after a bath and then apply this prescribed medication. He was a year at that point. It finally worked and he never has any scalp problems now, thank God. It was AWFUL, though!

My son just turned 3 months today and he is still scratching himself. I thought it would stop by now but it has actually gotten worse. My doc said he has some eczema on his face and to put .1% cortizone cream on it. Reluctantly I did and he is still grabbing at his hair and his face. I still have to swaddle him at night so he won't tear himself up. My lactation consultant is against putting mittens or socks on his hands ( because breast fed babies want to feel thier mothers skin, it's a tactile thing) and he is at the age where he can pull them off anyway! I'm starting to get a little freaked out by it so I appreciate your posts.

Your lactation consultant may be against it, but if it keeps your baby from scratching himself to pieces, then I would put something over his hands. He should be at an age now where latching isn't a problem.

On top of that, why would you be reluctant to put cream on his skin that would hel pease something that is very painful and itchy? I didn't quite understand that comment.

cortizone cream is medicated . Anything that is medicated can cause an extreme reaction if they have allergy to it. I would have choosen to use a more homeopathic approach to his itching skin, but went with the doctors suggestion. tactile babies don't have difficulty latching on, they just prefer to use there hands to explore (ie. putting them in thier mouth) My son would be more upset if he had no use of hands then if he scratched himself. I hope this clarifies my comment more to you.
