Heat Rash?

posted 8th Dec '07
So Parker gets this rash type thing all over his belly very frequently. Sometimes it's just red and smooth and other times it is red with little bumps. I've come to the conclusion that it is a heat rash, but I'm just not sure. I brought it up with his pedi, and she told me to watch what he's eating because it could be an allergic reaction. Of courseI already knew this. Parker has been on solids for a month, but I haven't given him anything but breast milk and some formulain about a week and he just developed the rash again last night. So, I'm pretty sure it's not an allergic reaction, but it still worries me because it just looks uncomfortable. Do any of your babies do this and how do you take care of it? Right now I'm putting Desitin on it and it goes away, but I'm thinking I may have to find a good scent and dye free line of products for bathing and such. Any ideas??

My daughter had that, but all over her body, not just her belly. Her face and arms and legs were red too. It was a heat rash, and seemed to be irritated more with regular detergents, so I used the Ivory Snow detergent for all her laundry till she was several months old, and then the problem went away.

I wash all of his stuff in Dreft still, so I don't think it's his detergent...but hey, he could just have SUPER sensitive skin I guess.   I just feel so bad for the little guy. I've never had a rash before so I don't know what it feels like, but it looks like it hurts!

Lucas had heat rash on his belly when he was itty bitty and we just kept him naked (well with diaper that is) as much as possible and at night would just swaddle him in a real light blanket. For the past 2 weeks or so he got a red bumpy rash on his body and faceso we took him back to the doc for it and they said he has a bit of eczema so we got a prescription ointment for his body and hydrocortizone for his faceand have started using fragrence free lotion and baby wash. It cleared up within a few days and now just comes about in a tiny patch here or there every so often. So if your ped. isn't concerned about it, I would just try to use the fragrence free lotion and baby wash and maybe that will help.
