Dry Itchy Nipples

posted 3rd Dec '07
I've noticed that lately my nipples have been driving me completely insane! They have become dry and irritated and I have no idea what to do about it. I've tried lotion but that doesn't last very long. Is this something that I have to suck up, or is there something I can do about it?

lanolin!!! it's a lifesavor!!! and once you have the baby it's still safe to use cuz you can just wipe it off and not worry about the residue hurting your baby, thats what my doc recommended and it's great!

I know that it may sound gross but as soon as you get out of the shower dry off all your body except for your nipples then apply a thin coat of vaseline and leave your bra off for about five minutes. That is the ONLY thing that makes mine bearable! Hope this helps.

well lanolin is great, but if youre pregnant then i would save some money and use vaseline for now because lanolin can be pricey. if youre breastfeeding use lanolin all the time!!! because you cant use vaseline because the babys not supposed to eat it, but lanolin is safe.

walmart, it's like around $8. that why i say use vaseline until you breast feed, it will serve the same purpose for less cost.

For me, it lasts all day long. The vaseline has time to absorb into my skin and give it the moisture it needs. I apply it at my morning shower and evening shower and mine are much better. I was actually having cracking skin   etc.

it should last for awhile unless you put a bra on right away, then your bra will absorb it. but it's thick enough it will stay put for awhile.
oooh and also the lanolin is at target k mart and pretty much anywhere they have baby stuff, its just cheapest at walmart. it's by the company lansinoh, and its in a light purple box.

Lanolin is kinda gross feeling.. i have to admit it's really sticky but it's seriously the best stuff EVER.. You can get the generic kind for a few bucks. It should be in the pharmacy section, but if you can't find it ask someone to point you out to a tube of 100% pure lanolin... dont let anyone talk you into getting the lotion cuz the lotion has stuff in that actually drys your skin... the kind i have is in a tube and says 100% pure lanolin right on the front. I put it on when i get outta the shower and just put my bra on right after... it doesn't stain my bra or anything but if your worried about it you could put the pads in that are for breastfeeding. I think if you try it you'll see the difference from vaseline.. that didn't work to good for me that's why i asked my doc!... good luck!
