yeah he loves playing with my nephew but hes 12...
if he does interact with kids his age its not in a good way..
he normally pushes them down or will grab them by the arm

Hi jsmommy we have been lax here lately but I should be on more come September when all 3 kiddies are in school-whoot whoot. I understand how you feel about wanting them to interact. As for people thinking he is a brat, are you sure, or is that how you think people are seeing him. I've found educating bystanders gets a whole lot more understanding and less negativity.....but I do shut them down when they go all sympathetic on me because sympathy is redundant.

Hi! I know exactly how that feels. Putting him around other kids is pretty pointless since he acts like they don't exist. Then gets too rough if he does try to interact. Oh how we love the lonely life of autism mommy.

For the longest time, my boss used to say I spoil her. Then I opened and told her, and that was that.

Has anyone tried a compression vest to help with overstimulation? We had a Pedi appointment today that was just awful, you'd think she was burning him with a hot poker just touching the stethoscope to him, and had to eventually give up trying to look in his ears and mouth. I found a momma selling a vest in his size so I bought it on impulse so that next time we go out I can try putting it on him. Gosh I hope it helps him, today was one of his worst meltdowns.

Just had to share with people who know how big this is-but Brady is finally answering us the odd time and has even repeated a word or two.....this is so exciting!!! He starts school this September and I was absolutely dreading the drama, but now that he is at least starting to be a bit more compliant I think it may be a good thing. About 3 months ago Brady would go a week or two w/out saying anything at all ecept baby babble (he will be 4 in October) and then the odd time say a word or echo a phrase in another voice.. The other night was bath night and usually Brady just ignores or doesn't understand, but this night I said "Time for bath Brady" and he repeated bath 3 times and followed me.....how awesome is that! I share these things to give others hope, not to brag or 'rub it in'. I know how daunting Autism can seem but the accomplishements are so much more appreciated.

mainly only distraction   redirection sometimes makes it worse because he then wants to purposely do what i'm telling him not to
