How is everyone-I know it is summer and everyone is busy. I am going to get the application to get Brady a guide dog today-so hopefully in 2.5 years he will have a new buddy to help him along in life. I was a little sad yesterday when my 8 year old brought home her journal and in it she had a picture of her trying to hug Brady and it read-when I feel anxious I find my brother and try to give him a big hug but he always pushes me away.I pretended that it was cute, but I was dying inside.
And I need opinions-yesterday I was told that there may be funding at a daycare in a neighboring city at Pathways where he gets his therapy. I paid out of pocket $340 for july(2 days a week) so that he could continue going to preschool during the summer. So if this funding is like $50 or free would you uproot your kid for 1 month and send him to a different daycare, or would you keep him where he is and pay for August (which would be cheaper than $340 because we are on vacation that month)-each places are about 25 minutes away. I trust where he is now, although he screams every single day going, but he screams going many places-transition you know.

Would the daycare only be free for the summer or could you use it long term (other breaks etc?

It has to be hard with the older kids..   I'm sorry....

It would depend... But I would probably try the new one what if it's the thing he likes?

Thanks I appreciate your opinion, and the sympathy. I have a question for you. I have noticed that Brady is stimming more lately, and when I brought this up to his OT she said good. I am confused, is it good for them to stim or is it a negative. He always had the hand gestures (opening and closing, and slapping his head) but he didn't do much of the rocking, but now he is-I know you shouldn't necessarily stop them, but I know you've posted before that you try to get Jamil redirected...so what should I do?

It's really confusing and it depends

Because Brady doesn't have another outlet, and is so aggressive and shut off I wouldn't try to stop him,
Basically the stemming does help them shut out other things that are bothering them, but for some kids it winds them up and lead to behaviors

but it depends on what it looks like... I mean like for Jamil I try to redirect him to something more functional that will meet his needs...

I try to break him if he's stuck in a loop,

Okay I think I get it. If he is stimming because he is watching a movie and it helps him cope with the action then let him. But if he is idly stimming, as in jumping and flapping while doing nothing productive, then try and engage him in something.....it is the something I have issues with, lol. Thanks again my helpful guru.

No that's not what I mean...

If the stimming makes him happy leave it, if it's compulsive and he can't stop, and it makes him angry... Stop it before it gets to compulsive

Quoting My Brat!:" My daughter seems to be out growing Melatonin. What else can i do???"

My son never could use it, it wasn't potent enough or something, his doc has him on clonodine (which i get smurf for from other ppl but its what works). Its a blood pressure med, but they use it for people who have insomnia as well

Hey everyone. I started my ABA training today. Luckily it is just myself and the instructor, so I was able to ask many questions. I also used my first ever respite today and the kids loved her-hurray!! The end of the day was really smurffy though....um quite literally-kids and hubby gagging everywhere because Brady was smurffing everywhere...through his diaper. Now sweet peace as everyone is asleep.

So Riley has been flapping, toe walking and lining toys up instead of playing with them. His speech is delayed but he will say full sentences so that's good...it makes me sad though..I don't know how else to describe the feeling.

hi, i took a very long...almost 2 year break from BG, but now more than ever i feel like i need to be involved with other moms who know what this is like...its hard to ever have play dates with any of my friends and their kids bc my son wants nothing to do with them..and they just assume hes being a brat...so its pretty lonely.
he was officially diagnosed with autism in January, but i knew he had it since about 7 or 8 months old.

just wanted to make an introduction

It's def not easy. My daughter won't play with any kids other than family. She plays with her cousins (all younger) and her half sister (she's 4), and that's it
