So glad I found this forum   QUESTION: My husband swore into the marines already and he leaves to bootcamp Sep 8th 2008, there's no way he can get out of this or switch to another branch of military???

Why does he want to switch/get out?

If you are able to (Im not so sure) It'll probably be hard to do. You can try talking to a recruiter, (probably someone different than his--his will say pretty much anything to get him to stay) and see what they say.I'm not in the military, and my hubby's not home to ask butI think once he's signed that contract and sworn in--he's pretty much in for the 4-5 years.

you can. My best friend switched from Marines to the Air Force. but he will have to find a good Air Force recruiter cause they are really picky about prior service stuff.

OMG!!! yayyyy ok here's why... he wants to switch now to Coast Guard or National Guard because it's less stressful on me and maybe he'll be closer to home instead of overseas. He went to the coast guard recruiting office and the recruiter said NO, he can't. He's already sworn into the marines. His friend from work though did this about 8 years ago so thats why I got my hopes all high for him to get out of the marines. He doesn't want to go into any other branch unless it's the coast guard or national guard or navy. He doesnt like the army or air force because of bad stories he's heard about.

On his "forms" ( I dont know what they're called lol) it says 4 years reserve and 4 years active. I dont understand it all, he says it's only for 4 years and he can get out or re-enlist if he wants. I'm probably going to go with him and talk to other recruiters this week and see what they say.

Its actually pretty fun!
Marines are a different breed...they are totally there for you when you need something.....we get to travel..sure I miss my family...but they know its the life of the military
My hubby has been to Iraq/Afganastan 3 times..but for no longer than 7 months...
I really enjoy being the wife of a Marine...they are kick butt..LOL
No matter which branch...I think it would be an adjustment you know....but the Marines...YES...love them
*and they look so cute in dress blues..LOL

I've always wanted to have the military lifestyle since most of my family is in it, but when it came down to my hubby i was like ohhh hell no! lol but i'm trying to be more supportive so that he can do what he wants which is join the marines. when he leaves to iraq/afganastan, are you in military housing or on base? thats what im worried about for myself and our son and are you able to communicate at least every other day??? thanks so much, my hubby is going to thank you when he hears how i react now

We are not in military housing....
being a military wife does take LOTS of support...so be supportive and proud of your honey!!
My hubby works with Sat communications..LOL...so he is always around the internet and phone...and we talked EVERY single day when he is gone...I felt lucky about that....he is also very safe at war...he has a important job..he has to fix communications when they are down...so he was never ever in danger...because he is so needed in war..they wont risk him going to actually fight..LOL..he is always safe....so thats another thing...depending on his MOS~

Yes girl..let him know that you support him...cause you will find all kinds of support from his peers and other military wives!
I can understand your fear..but once you get in..aww..you will love it!!!
And the balls...AWWW

At least I wont have to get recipes to cook anymore, he can just show me hehe! My hopes are up and i wanna thank you for making me realize that there isnt just bad parts of the military.
