Mild Heart Murmur?

Has anyone of you ladies been told that your child has a mild heart murmur? I just got out of my sons drs appointment with his pedi, and she says she hears a mild murmur, although she said its nothing really serious, I as a mother am freaking out!!! I have scheduled an appointment with a cardiologist and to get chest xrays, I mean he is only a year old and I am so scared and worried. If any of you mommas out there have been told the same can you plz tell me what happened or is happening?

We went through the same thing last October, she was 18 months old. I was very scared because they said it was loud but after going to the cardiologist we found it to be innocent. We have to go back for the one year check up next month.

Me, my little sister, AND my niece were all told we had heart mururs when we were born. I remember being little and going up to the children's hospital and being put on a heart monitor.. I got to see the ultrasound type thing of my heart. It turned out that all we had (all 3 of us!) was an extra band of tissue in our hearts. The doctor told me I had music in my heart. We all grew out of it. So that may be the case for your LO too.

the doctor told me that as well, my LO was 2 months and they told me not to freak out [yeah right!] anyways, we went to the cardiologist and he said that he hasn't seen such a beautiful perfect heart in such a long time! Nothing was wrong, he said sometimes they just want to be safe but it is normal for small babies to have a slight murmur while they are still developing.

eta. if your LO is a year i'm not sure. i skipped over that part... a lot of people responded to my post saying they ran marathons and such with a murmur!

If it's just a mild murmer, I wouldn't be too concerned. My daughter just had Open heart surgery for a moderate VSD and other defects; I wish you luck  

Thank you ladies for your stories, with all the stress i needed some sort of happy stories. he will be getting chest xrays soon and a visit to the cardiologist! im hoping for the best, thanks and good luck to amuseme08

I have one babe and I grew out of it. My mom freaked out when she heard it and it ended up not affecting me EVER. Hopefully he does the same.   Think positively.

Im trying so hard not to freak out, he has always had wheezing problems, since he was born, and im a really paranoid mom lol,. ugh its hard but im sure that everything will turn out good at least im hoping! thank you and im soo glad that you are doing well and had no difficulties at all

omg! reyna!! =( he'll be okay! try to not stress (i know thats pretty much impossibe right now though!!)

When Marcus was born he had a very loud and noticable murmur. They checked it out and found a whole bunch of stuff wrong, did a fish test to his chromosomes and found he has VCFS its a genetic disorder.

His heart problem entail:
-Hole in Heart (causing the murmur) - most babies close up on their own
- Severe Pulmonary Stenosis with DORV
- Brain Damage to 20% Lower left brain (due to throwing a clot and stroking during a surgery)

He has had 2 surgeries just catheters through his hip. One at 2 weeks and another just here in August. They were to put a stent into his valve to open it up.

He is having open heart surgery before christmas to close the hole and create an artificial valve to lead the valve back to where it is supposed to be and channel it through the hole and close the hole around it. Going to be an all day proceedure.

Marcus's Murmur was extremely loud and still is. It sounds pretty cool when I listen to it through a thesiscope (cant spell) .. but its scary as hell.

You baby just has a mild murmur and he is still only small and growing. Murmurs are usually caused by there being a hole in the muscle of their hearts. And most cases close up on their own.

omg momma my heart goes out to you and your family and your son for being a trooper! I hope everything goes well, my son has had wheezing and breathing problems when born due to consistent bronchitis,, so i hope everything turns out well with the chest xrays and drs appointment with the cardiologist! thanks for your support and i hope all goes well with your son as well

Thank you. Yeah he's my little trooper. He's a fighter and a happy boy and has his big sister to look out for him too   good luck with the chest X-rays. Are they going to do an Eco as well? That's the ultra sound of his heart.

they havent mentioned that, but i do remember the dr saying that when i take him to the cardiologist he will most likely to an ultrasound, lol i am assuming yes!

Echoes are pretty straight forward, my wee one has had nine or ten-EKGs aren't too bad, the probes are horribly sticky lol.
I hope your son's appointment goes great, no chold should have to go through the trauma of OHS. Good luck hun

I'm really scared for my LO going for his open heart. How did you pull through when your's was having theirs?
