lunges

posted 29th Nov '07
Does anyone in here do lunges? I've done them my entire pregnancy and today for some reason I just couldn't do them anymore. My legs felt like they were breaking off at the hip. It was more the backward lunges than the front ones, but still... I don't know. I was just wondering if anyone else in here has had this problem and if there are any stretches or anything that you know to help. This is my 3rd child, and I had major hip pain with my second which exercise helped, but this isextreme with lunges. I don't want to stop doing them because they're like the only thing that really workto keepmy legs nice! Any ideas?

I do them... somehow my body is still letting me at 32 weeks. I think it just depends pregnancy to pregnancy. You need to listen to your body....... if it's saying no lunges, then you should probably stop. There are several other exercises you can do for your legs- squats, one legged squats, leg press machine at the gym, leg curls, etc. I know it's tough to give up a favorite exercise though. I had to give up running at about 20 weeks or so because it just didn't feel good anymore, but I know some women who were able to do it until they gave birth. So basically, let your body be your guide.   Good luck!

Yes i used to do those all the time before i ran/walked. Could be that your body is softening your joints to accomodate the baby and unfortunately the hormones do not discriminate against joints. Or your body's weight could be a factor. I stopped running at 6 months cause my hips hurt so bad and my knees were aching. As posted before just listen to your body or do lunges with an excercise ball for support if you havent tried that already. Good luck stay fit!

I had to stop doing any exercises two months ago when I got put on bed rest.  I would say if it hurts, don't do it, though.

Yea, I do all those other ones too.. although I guess more one legged squats couldn't hurt.. it's so sad that I'm so sad about having to not do them anymore.. Although I haven't tried them with an exercise ball yet.. and going up the stiars 2 at a time still doesn't hurt, so maybe I just need to be at a higher angle. Hmm.. I'll have to try it out this weekend when I'm able to move.. thanks you guys!
