do they hurt?

At the hospital i went to they dont even do them anymore. If babies head is too big they know by ultrasound so they will suggest c section beforehand

my hospital doesnt do them anymore either.

my mom had that and said that she was in such pain from the contractions that she didnt even notice it when they did it!

Wow! I would much rather have an episiotomy than a c section!! I had an epidural, so the intial cut I didn't even feel. I could feel pulling while he was stitching it, which was odd! The recovery hurt, but I'm not sure how much more it hurt than no episiotomy would hurt. What no one mentions are the hemorroids!! Those things are super painful!!

I had it and I thought it was going to hurt but when she cut I didn't feel a thing. I was watching the whole thing It only hurt afterwards because of the swolleness.

that's true, when they cut it's at the last possible second in the middle of acontraction so between the pressure of the head and the pain of the contraction you don't even feel it. It did make a pretty spray of blood all over the wall though! Ugh. I wish they would have given my one with my youngest though, I tore so badly on both sides it hurt for weeks, where the episiotmy only hurt for a few days.

Yeah I didn't feel the actual cut nor stiches going in but afterwards I hurt pretty bad!

I'd much rather have a c-section that be cut like that. At least with a c-section you can move in certain ways to prevent it hurting so much, but with that, any way you move is gonna hurt!

Thank you all. you've helped a lot and i think that when i go to have my baby in may i'll be getting one done, if i'm able to deliver naturally.

Talk to your OB if your hospital still does them

It really sucks when you know you can't deliver the way you want. Like my mom, she had two c-sections and she was told that she would never be able to have a natural birth. Well, along came me and I was the only natural one. That showed the doctors for sure! So things could always end up different than what you expect. That's the "fun" part of pregnancy.

my sister had one adn she said the pain wasnt that bad so idk i really hop e i dont need one...from my last u/s tho it looks like my baby has a small head so i hope it stays that way!
