bronchitis and pregnancy-anyone??

posted 24th Jan '07
my husband has been sick on and off for about 2 weeks, ranging from cough, fever, and sinus infection, last night i started to cough and my chest began to rattel, today i woke up and i sound like a frog, chest is still rattling, i generally get bronchitis twice a year, and i havent had it for over a year, so i guess i can consider myself to be lucky, until now, i have a doctors appt tomorrow but im not sure what they will give me, i had an ear infection once during this pregnancy, and he gave me amoxicillian, but usually it takes more that an antibiotic to clear up the bronchitis, i have albuterol and the advair disk usually to help aid in the healing of my coughing, i know not to use them, and i wonder what else they might give me that will be stong enought to fight this, i called the doctor today and they said i could take robitusson, only problem is my husband and i share a car and he wont be home till 5 pm, so until then i will ease my sore throat with minute maid frozen lemonade and popcicles, anyone had bronchitis while pregnant, and if so what did they give you to make it go away

Go see your Dr. before you end up in the hospital! It sucks SOOOO bad to have bronchitis when you are pregnant. I had it at about 26 weeks and I was so miserable. You really can take a little more than you would think, but you still don't get any of the good knock you out stuff. My Dr. gave me a z-pac and an albuterol inhaler and those both helped a lot. I tried not to use the inhaler very often. The Dr. swears it was safe but it made both me and the baby jittery, so I was careful anyway. I also took benadryl, which didn't really help the symptoms, but did help me sleep at night, which is what I needed the most. The coughing is the worst. My ribs and back never really recovered. I wish you luck.

I know how much pain that is affecting you. My mom has permanent bronchitis she has to do a breathing treatment thing every night just to keep her airway open. all this because she smoked for about 7 years   My poor mama..

well i go to the doctor at 8 30 in the morning, it just sucks right now because i am home alone without a car, jon is picking me up some some tussin on his way home, i have some proventic which is a form of albuterol, but im like you, im afraid to use it, i used it once when i had just found out i was pregnant and it made me feel funny so i was worried about the baby, i guess tomorrow i will find out if it is safe, luckily i have only had it since last night, it hasnt had time to progress, but i can taste blood in my throat from coughing, yuk, and i kept jon up all night long, i have also bruised ribs before from coughing and i dont want it to get to that point, i do have chronic bronchitis, which they call asthmatic bronchitis because it gets to be so bad when i do have it, SUCKS FOR ME, ughh, and benadryll makes my restless legs worse, i cant sleep from my legs twitching and im miserable, tylenol doesnt usually work for me, my tolerance is too high, i guess thats my fault

Tylenol is so useless. I swear it is not a real drug. My Dr. let me take advil for my ribs until I was 32 weeks and man, I really miss it. Maybe more than wine and my cute jeans even.

Your Dr. should give you an antibiotic and then you will feel so much better. I swear within two days I felt a million times better. Just try to get him to give you a real antibiotic. It's fine to try amoxicillin or keflex, and then move up to stronger stuff when that doesn't work when you are not pregnant. But when there is a baby in there, they should just cut to the chase and give you the stuff that actually works the first time around. Coughing sucks bad enough when you don't have a baby kicking you in the ribs...See if he will give you a z-pac. That still seems to work every time.

Hmm. I think it is azithromyacin? No idea if I spelled that right. It is a good antibiotic and you only have to take it for 5 days, so double bonus. I think if you asked your Dr. for a z-pac he would know what you were talking about.

I am currently at the end of my 25th week and I have a serious case of bronchitis. I had a really bad respiratory flu for the past week and it seems to have settled into my chest. I have been taking Robitussun to break up the phlegm and using a humidifier to keep my lung tissues moist. Another thing that really helps is to have a friend or your spouse hit your upper back repeatedly with some force while you try to cough it out - It really loosens things up and you cough alot more out that way (that is how you have to treat children with Cystic Fibrosis).

I'm 24 weeks and I have bronchitis right now. I've been taking Robutussin and the doc prescribed that Z-pac stuff. Today is the 3rd day I will take it and it is the only this that seems to be making it get better. With all the coughing it must feel like and earthquake for my little girl in there......

Allergy tablets work for me. Bronchitis is a form of an allergic reaction. So taken those regarly (4times a day) can help prevent the bronchitus form becomming severe. Everytime I feel that a cold will turn in to bronchitis a began taking the allergy tablets. Sometimes it even stops the bronchitis.
