Giving a toddler Almond milk

posted 19th Sep '10
Can some of you very awewsome and educated mommies explain to me the benifits of almond milk.

Back at my daughter's one year appt I was scolded for not giving her cows milk even though she is still breastfed.

Reading up on it i discovered that milk provies a lot of fats a growing toddler needs....my thinking on that was, well breast milk is FULL of fat..

anyway, I then started reading about how even some "organic" companies *cough* horizon *cough* don't do "organic" the way it should be done.....

So i bought my toddler almond milk....WHICH SHE IS LOVING...
now that i know she likes it
I want to know, what kind should I buy, the regular kind, the unsweetened, vanilla, ect....
what does almond milk offer her that is also found in cows milk....

thanks for reading and your answers

Almond milk actually happens to be very high in fat

My LO only drinks almond milk. Never cows milk.

No cholesterol, low sodium, calcium and vitamin D, iron, protein, rich in vitamin e, rich in omega fatty acids, no lactose so it's easier to digest.

Oh and almonds are very high in HEALTHY fats. Unsaturated fats. So lower risk of heart problems.

i give my son almond milk. it has more added nutrients in it... but is lacking in fat. if your child is still breastfed though, it is fine.
almond milk has more calcium, i know that much. its better for an ADULT, because it does not have fat which is great for our calcium intake, but still low calorie and low fat for a healthy diet.

Vitamin and Mineral Content

Almonds naturally contain high levels of potassium and vitamin E. The milk derived from these nuts has 50% of your daily recommended intake of vitamin E per serving with 150 mg of potassium as well.
Almond milk contains 25% of your daily value of vitamin D, which helps your body absorb higher levels of calcium. The high levels of vitamin D work in sync with the calcium found in almond milk. One cup contains 30% of your daily value.
Other Minerals found in almond milk include copper, magnesium, riboflavin, iron, phosphorus, zinc and manganese. Minerals like copper and iron help to improve oxygen flow in your blood, while riboflavin, an essential nutrient that must be obtained through diet, helps metabolize foods and protect against harmful free radicals.

Almonds happen to be very fatty themselves. 42 percent of the calories in Almond Milk is fat, which is pretty good, especially considering it's all good fat.

thank you ladies sooo much!!

I won't do cows milk because of the hormones and all of the mess that children don't need...

She does breastmilk still, but I just want something else she can drink, and i knew almond milk was good, but i just didn't know what exactly it did...

thank you ladies so much...

No problem   I've always hated cow's milk. Vanilla almond milk is so delicious though lol.

For the mamas who use Almond milk (for your LOs) do you get the unsweetened or the sweetened.
Im wondering how much sugar is in the sweetened one.
