Shopping Carts
posted 24th Nov '07
When you go shopping by yourself with your child and wheel the cart into the parking lot. What do you do with the cart once you have unloaded your bags?
I used to hate it when I would see a cart just sitting in the middle of a space or just left behind by the last person and not brought back to one of the cart corrals. I always made sure I brought mine back so my cart wouldn’t hit another car or take up a space. But, now that I have a child I’m not sure what to do.
Now if I go shopping with someone else one of us will stay with the child in the car and the other will return the cart. But, if I’m alone the only options I see are putting my child in the vehicle, then unloading my bags, then get my child back out of the vehicle, then go return the cart with my child. Or to leave the cart behind but I feel I’m being rude to the next person that comes along. What do you do?

I have that problem too, but I ride around until I find a parking spot next to a cart corral.

It depends how close the cart return is. I always try to put mine back but if there is no return in sight, I put it somewhere out of the way of other cars. If itsclose tomy car, I put it back and just carry the car seat back with me from the return. If its right next to my car like a spot or two over, I just leave Em in the car while I return it,

At the grocery store.. The cart returns are always pretty close to where i park.
But at walmart, unless there is a return close by, then Ihave no choice but to abandon it since i don't want to lose sight of my car.

well, i suppose if i went shopping alone i would leave the car seat on the cart while i was unloading(not that i ever go shopping aloen where i get more than what i could carry out of the store, but hypothetically speaking) and wheel her to the cart corral and then bring her back to the car and leave. i hate it when people abandon their carts also, especially when theyre in the middle of a parking spot so u cant park there >:/

I park as close as I can to a return and I put her in the car, unload my bags, lock my car with the keychain thingy return cart and unlock car and get in! As long as car is locked and I'm in site of it its okay with me.

I put the groceries in, returne the cart with the kid and then get them into the car. now, granted it's getting colder so, I may on end up leaving it now and again.

I also tend to try to park next to the cart thingy! Or I let someone help me out.. I also generally wear my son in the carrier, so I don't keep him in the shopping cart, and I don't put him in the car while I'm putting in the stuff,(or he would start SCREAMING, he has to have him Mom in sight) so I take him with me to put the cart away.

with my lil sisters, i always just made sure we were kinda close to the cart return && after everything was loaded up, i'd "throw" it back to the return. i'm a dork, so if i missed, we'd pull up && i'd push it the rest of the way. haha.

Quoting Monkyn&Coco'sMama (HippyB:“ I put the groceries in, returne the cart with the kid and then get them into the car. now,
same thing... Madelyn watches me put the groceries in the car... I wheel her and the cart back to the cart return and carry her back to the car and place her in the seat...

If i cant get close enough to a cart return i leave the cart... dont get me wrong I feel horrible about it.. But its just to much to have to take him in and out of the car, and I dont feel safe leaving him in the cart while i unload the cart.. This is such a delema.

I try to park close to a cart return. If there is a cart return within sight distance of my car, then I fasten Hailey into her carseat and put the cart away.
If I feel unsafe.. I have the remote to my car and can lock her in the car while I turn my back.
If there isn't one within reasonable sight, I try to find a way to ditch it w/out blocking a parking spot.
