BABY #2?

posted 21st Nov '07
my daughter is currently 10m old, and we've spoken and decided that we want another child. Its just a matter of when. My time is limited (docs dont think i'll be physically able to carry a baby in future) but i dont want to rush it, and end up having too much on my plate. For the ones of you who have little ones close together... how is it? i am well aware of the stereo-type that it is a living hell. I can def see how it would be hard, but im thinkin it cant be that horrible! any opinions are welcome!

I think it's great. My kids have a lot of fun together. I just timed it good so when I had one, the other was getting potty trained. I only had them in diapers for three months together at the most. Other than that, it was good.

i never thought about potty training or the cost of TWO in diapers! one is expensive enough! I plan on starting to potty train my daughter as soon as she starts walking, but im assuming she wont catch until until she's 18m or so. she's my first, i dont really know when your supposed to start potty training!

Our kids will be 28 months apart and I'm a little nervous. But, Tiernan is in nursery school five days a week and as long as he gets outdoor play time, he's good as gold in the evenings. We've been working with him and a baby doll on being gentle and talking to him about changes that are coming with the baby. It's a constant education for him because his attention span is that of...well, a 2-year-old. We are working on potty training and the school is doing so much for him by way of helping with that, as well as enforcing dental hygiene and table manners (things we do at home and he needs the consistency). He should be out of diapers in the next few months, or at least just in training pants and not needing a change quite as frequently. We will be cloth diapering this baby, though, so that will cut costs considerably in the bottom-covering department.

The biggest deal for us was having our son potty trained before having another child. My son is 28moths and I am about 5 weeks pregnant with #2. He is potty trained and it is much easier to not even worry about it. But thats just whats good for us. Everyone is different. I dont think I could handle two kids in diapers. I have a friend with three kids and two are in diapers..its very hard for hertohandle, plus the cost is pretty high!
Good Luck with whatever you decide.

I think now would be a great time for you to get pregnant. My girls are 9 1/2 and 8 I got pregnant with #2 when #1 was 12months old they are 21months apart. My sons are 33months and 11 months again my oldest son was 12mo when I got prego with my last baby. They are 22 months apart! I think its perfect! My best friend has 5 kids and they are all 2 yrs apart and she loves it also!

My kids are one day shy of 13 months apart, and it's not bad at all. I love it! It was hard the first few weeks with nighttime feedings and whatnot, but now it's pretty simple. You just have to learn to let certain things go (like your house can't be perfect all the time!). Baby #2 was a total surprise for us, but we were planning on having them about 18 months apart, so it just came a little sooner than planned!

Good luck whatever you decide!

I have often heard that having two babies in diapers is hard. I can't figure out why it would be, but I guess it depends on your situation. My first baby is 14 months old and I am 19 weeks preggo.Mine will be 20 months apart. Due to my age... (...37) I am not willing to risk waiting to have more kids then not be able to.... (my mom went through menopause early...)... I don't want my child to be alone in the world when we're gone, so having at least one sibling is important to me. I work full-time and my daughter is starting daycare two days a week in January, then will be with grandparents for 3. Baby #2 will stay home with me for 3 months (baby #1 will still go to daycare & grandparents) then after that will stay home with dad for 3 months.... after that, we don't know... either daycare or grandparents. I guess because I am not a stay-at-home mom, I don't have to change all of the diapers myself. I am sure my life will be crazy, especially the first4 weeks of delirium after baby #2 is born.

I have been curious about potty training for my 14 month old, because she likes to imitate me. We did buy her a training potty. For now it is only so she can sit on it while I go to the bathroom. I did read on baby center that you can't potty train any earlier than 18 months. Apparently this is because kids can't feel the 'sensation' that they have to go before that. There are some tips in how to start. I will look for a link & post it if I can find it again.

I have a two year old and a 3 month old. Having two kids in diapers is a slight downfall because of the cost. But trust me its worth it. Theyre so much fun at thost ages. At first, my daughter was really mad at me, and she wouldnt have anything to do with me at first. But it only took her a day or two to warm up to the fact that there was another little one in the house. Now she loves helping me with my son. It didn't take long for them to get used to eachother. He can sleep through her running up and down the house acting silly, and she can sleep through his fussy-ness. Everyday is a new surprise, and full of fun.

I think you should be okay, I haven't had the on hand experience yet, but my two girls will be 20 months apart and I think it will be great, of course you will always be busy, but they will grow up to be closer in the end!! I have read in parenting magazines that it is best to have them 24 months or less apart and the fighting between them won't be as bad! My daughter is now 16 months and I have just begun the process of potty training, just setting her on it when I go to the potty, so she can get the feel for it, butI am thinking by the time my other daughter is about three months old she should be pretty much potty trained!! So good luck and best wishes, everything should work out great!!!! Just keep high hopes and it will be fine!!

my boys are exactly 20 months apart and it is nat as hard as i thought. i thinkthe hardest part is that my son will be 2 in feb and has entered terrible 2's .and my younger son is only 2 months so he still needs alot of attention..you just learn how to manage your time. and have them napping at them same time is a life saver..lol

and the best part is that when they get older they will have each other.like on vacations and stuff their best freind is allways their.
yes the diaper thing kinda sux but like soem one else said it is soo worth it
