We focus a lot on verbalizing emotions, and it has really, really paid off. People are always impressed that she'll say stuff like "You're really frustrating me." in a calm tone, whereas most two year olds will just act extremely frustrating and not tell you why.

awe! I wouldn't either.

we are also working on emotions.. I made little faces and discussed the emotions with my two year old(almost 3!!) so he can better verbalize how he's feeling. All I can usually get out of him is a head shake or a nod. But, atleast we're getting somewhere..

We did that with Lydia. We do it with Charlotte but she just doesn't have the vocabulary that Lydia did at that age. She will say "I sad! I sad!" now.

Great job mama!!!

Nobodys been in here in a while but I need to vent I guess.
I'm 6 weeks pregnant and my son is 2 1/2.
My boobs are sore and my nipples are wicked sensitive.
I can't STAND him bfing. Its like torture while he's doing it.
I have him down to twice a day but yesterday I didn't let him at all, and this morning he did and I hated it.

Any suggestions or advice? I'm thinking I'm just going to have to finally wean him :-(

Do you have anyone that can take him for a couple nights? I was in the same situation and ready to wean but just didn't know what to do. So my MIL took them for a couple nights and when they came back I told him that there was no more milk and that I had bobo's, or that they were broken. It worked, I only had to remind him for a couple days and he stopped asking so much. He actually became quite the cuddler after that and we've bonded much more. As the new baby approached I kept letting him know that my boobs were busy making milk for the new baby. I expected him to be very jealous when I first nursed but he was super excited! I think he was just glad someone got the boob, lol. He was just shy of 2 1/2 when we stopped. He'll be 3 in NOV and is adjusting great to the new LO.
With all that being said, you don't have to wean. If you can make it until your colostrum comes in I've heard the pain lessens greatly then. I made it until about 17 or 18 weeks but just took the opportunity to wean when it came up. But I had been ready to wean for awhile just didnt want to rush him. Good luck!

eek. if you're only 6w in and you're opening to weaning and think he'd take to it, then I'd probably just go with that option. If you REALLY REALLY wanna try and stick it out, then you just gotta take it day by day.

I've been ready to wean for a while now but I didn't mind if he kept going. I was planning on weaning around 3, which now he will be 3 right before the baby comes.

It doesn't hurt at all, its just SUPER annoying. My nipples are so sensitive. Its weird it like makes me angry when he's bfing and I'm like snapping at him "are you done yet?!"

But then he gets right off lol. Like he doesn't even care if he is or not. Yesterday he was pretty cool about not doing it. I don't even know if he's getting milk anymore. I don't have anyone to take him over night but I might just try telling him there's no milk

glad someone posted in here. I kept meaning to come in and update, but then forgot when I clicked on my topics. lol

Leo is 3m old now (since Aug 7) and we are doing pretty good. Finn is 29m old. He's gone back to nursing in the morning (or I gave in because I wanted to sleep longer), but he goes down to sleep and sleeps through the night without nursing, no problem. =D

Id love to tandem nurse.
I'm totally the child led type which is why I've just been letting him do his own thing. But now, he's not seeming too upset when I tell him "not now, maybye later" so I'm thinking of pushing a litttle and seeing where it goes. If he freaks though, i'll end up giving in lol

def sounds like a nursing aversion. if you were past 30 weeks, I'd say to just hang in there, but since you're so early and since it generally just gets harder during the pregnancy, I would lean more toward weaning.

After the first trimester, it didn't hurt for me anymore, I still couldn't stand it though. Just do what you think is best for your relationship with your son. How did he do not nursing yesterday?

He whined but was overall cool with it. This morning he woke up really early wanting to and I told him if he goes back to sleep, when he woke up again I would let him. He slept til 7:30 which is a half hour past his normal time so I decided to let him nurse. He was so proud of himself telling me "I listened! I went back to sleep mama!" it was too cute.

Once I got to about 9 weeks it got better, I no longer want to just pull her off of me, it's back to pretty much normal.
