re: leading by example

Something everyone that enters the teen pregnancy forums needs to realise is thata lot of theteenagers of today use incorrect grammar and TypE lieK Dis hERe and that it's just another fad that will be outgrown. It annoys me too but their choice in spelling gives no human the right to ridicule them when they are here to inform themselves and ask advice. If you read the posts in teen pregnancy, be prepared to hear some "teen language" and if you really cant stand it, do them and yourself a favour and just dont read it.

Another thing, people need to look past the generalisation that teen pregnancy is a negative thing. Motherhood is motherhood and age should never deny you of it. Some teens may seem ignorant or ask "stupid" questions, this is just a reason to advise them, not to make them feel inferior.

oh my gosh, It's so wonderful that someone says this so well put. I completely agree.

I'm glad I finally came across this post. I couldn't agree more with you, Mara. But why isn't there any type of enforcement, bans, etc. to those who simply don't care and never think twice about the rude comments that they post to young teenagers looking for advice? I've only been here a short while and I've seen some of the older girls tear the young ones to bits only moments after the OP posted the topic.

I'd love to see BG become a place where EVERYONE... Young mommies, older mommies, teenager experiencing pregnancy for the first time, second time, whatever, ANYONE, could come to and be able to ask questions and get genuinely helpful answers by people who actually seem to want to help and not criticize and make immature jokes right in front of someone who is asking for help. It's kind of sad. Surely BG wouldn't have a Teen Pregnancy forum if it was only meant for older mothers and mothers-to-be, right?

we are very very reluctant to ban real members... b/c it's hard to say what's "good" and what's "bad".

for example, there are several very strong members on BG who-- at one time or another, behaved in ways that would have banned them from other more strict parenting sites.

i guess we just believe in redemption!

we ban trolls, thieves, and fake profiles... unfortunately, we don't ban bad behavior b/c everyone has a bad day and it's extremely difficult to draw the line w/out being biased.

we'd rather let in a bit of insanity and drama than shut people out just b/c they're wound up and hurting.

Well, I guess that's a good way to look at it. Everyone has their bad days. I just hate seeing the younger ones get chewed up and spit out simply because of their age. Teen pregnancy happens and it doesn't always happen in the late teens. I know that there are people who find this site and fake a pregnancy because they're bored, but there are some members who always jump to attack if they see a user who is 14-15 years old and says that they're pregnant. I guess I'm just one of those people who give the benefit of the doubt first since it actually does happen. I don't know.

But thank you for the reply. =]

honestly, i have NEVER once seen a 14/15/16 year old who came on here asking for help get jumped on IF they conducted themselves w/ just a tiny bit of maturity.

now, i have certainly seen teens get bashed after asking if they could be "pregnate" b/c their boyfriend "cummed" in them...

the majority of bashings occur after good advice is given and the teenager doesn't want to hear it.

OR

the teenagers starts w/ the ghetto typing.

but anyone who's pregnant and respectfully seeking help/advice?  i've never seen them get bashed once.

i agree... the internet is a crazy place though...

so many people become aggressive assholes b/c they're hiding behind a computer screen.

i try to roll w/ the punches and ignore the ones who think that being on the internet = freedom to be completely rude/disrespectful.

Thats happened too me. It happened too me today. People were treating me so mean that i almost stopped coming on the website. The things people say hurt. Whoever said words don't hurt was VERY wrong.

She's typing like she has some sense and the story seems pretty legit, but since she admitted that she's 14, no one is taking her seriously. She obviously came here for advice, but apparently being pregnant at age 14 is unheard of on this website?
