Pottytraining strong willed girls.

posted 8th Sep '10
Give me every tip you can, please.

We've been working on potty training for two months, and she's so strong willed, she will NOT do anything she doesn't want to, lmao.

I don't force her by any means, but I do take her with me every time I go, before baths, bed, ect. Hoping she'll try. She refuses to sit on the toilet with her toilet seat on it, or her potty chair. She will STAND UP as soon as she feels the urge, and pee on the floor lol.

I want to really start at 2, if she doesn't let me a little before. So give me and tips and such you have to make potty training easier for the both ofus, and more fun. =]]

You really have to wait until she's ready. She's obviously not ready at all, so drop it totally for now. My daughter is the same age and is nowhere near ready to start. Pushing it will only make her refuse more.

They say you're supposed to be consistent and we were half that for the 3 months. I baby sit and didn't want her peeing on my friends' carpet..so she was in pullups from about 8am to around 3pm, then for the rest of the day in panties. Addison isn't very strong willed it was just frustrating at first to train her. She was potty trained at two and hardly any accidents. We started with naked time..then when she'd go to the potty with no accidents, she would wear panties around the house..then when she'd go with no accidents then she wore panties all day around the house and in public. It's hard mama..but stick to it!!

I'll try the naked time, maybe that will help. Liv's more than ready. She tells me when she goes, when shes about to poop, but she just won't go in the toilet. I put her in undies one day and she begged for a diaper. I've tried little things to let her know the toilets safe, like not even flushing til she's out of teh bathroom because that's scares the smurf out of her. She just refuses to go ON the potty. Little stink, lol.

Yeah, I know, I can read. But if she's not interested don't even try taking her with you because it's not going to work. Why is it so hard to let her do it when she's ready?

My friend is still trying to potty train her 3 year old so I told her how we did it also..Hopefully it works for you! It's soooo much easier when they're potty trained!

Because she IS ready. She just won't go on the potty. she has EVERY single sign of being ready.

I know! And now that she can get ALL her clothes off no matter what I put her in and get that diaper off. I'm more than ready for her to use the potty. Especially since she has all the signs of being ready. She's just a little stinker. lol.

As the mother of 2 strong willed girls.
All you can do is wait until she decides she wants to do it.
I tried everything with my oldest, I really started trying to train her at around 2, sitting her on the potty every 5 minutes, charts, treats, etc. Bought her the potty seat when she was 1 to introduce it, she knew what it was for and would do it occasionally. I would have her go naked or in undies around the house. Pretty much everything that I could think of. She just refused to do it.
This went on until she was 3 1/2 and I heard a voice from the backseat of my car. She told me that she had to go potty. Ever since then she had almost no daytime accidents.
My youngest girl was the opposite. Again I got the potty seat for her at about a year old, introduced her to it, but decided not to do anything else until much later since potty training my first was so stressful. At 18 months she decided that she was using the potty from that point forward. Once she decided to do it she had almost no accidents day or night.

I said all that to say this. One day it will just kind of click, until that point all you can really do is encourage her and praise her when she gets it right.

Ahh, thank you so much! I hope it clicks to her soon, lol. Did you make your own potty charts or did you find one? I can't find one anywhere.

I've done both. Pampers has a part of there site where you can request a kit thingy, it comes with a pullup, a chart, some stickers, a little paper trophy thing and I think a pamphlet type thing for parents. I'll look and see if I can find it. I think it took about a month for it to get here after I requested it though.
