Libby?

Is this a suitable first name, or more of a nickname? We have a daughter named Lydia now, and I'm totally stuck on Libby if this one is a girl too. Luke is our boy name.

Also, any suggestions for a fitting middle name?

I think Libby is more of a nickname than a "proper" first name.

I have always heard "Libby" as short for Olivia.

I like it for a first name. I knew one girlnamed Libby and it fit her well.

Really? lol We call my cousin Libby and her really name is Elizabeth, we NEVER call her that though.

It's a cute nickname for Elizabeth.

I have a friend whose name is Elizabeth and she goes by Libby.

I like the name, but it's more nick-name-ish to me. Just like naming a baby Sam instead of Samuel or Samantha, there's nothing wrong with it, but a lot of people probably wouldn't.

I have a coworker who named her daughter Libby Eve.

I'm not crazy about it, and my 'problem' with it is that it can't "grow" with the baby. There isn't an adult form of it... I just have a hard time picturing a 40something year old woman with a career being called Libby.

Much the same as I have a hard time with babies who have long/big/strong names. I think they need something cutesy as a baby. I don't think that's true for all cases... one of my friends has 2 boys, David and William, they're 3 and 1, and they call the oldest Dave. Dave to me is an adult or teenager at best... not a toddler. lol On the other hand, they call the other one Willy - which bothers me for reasons I can't even get into.

Pick something you like... you're the only one who has to like it!   I LOVE the name Lydia.

I love the name Libby or even Liddy.. So i say yes.

I've heard "LIVY" for Olivia but never "Libby"

I've heard Libby for Elizabeth.


Oh and OP I don't think Libby is a proper first name. I do think it's a cute nickname though.

Libby is short for Elizabeth but you could still have Libby has her first name not just a nick name.
