Does anyone know about taking Zicam while pregnant?

I have a cold & it's KILLING me....ok so its not that bad. But it is annoying so i seen a commercial for Zicam Cold Remedy which is supposed to get rid of your cold much faster. I went on the website to see if it was safe to take while preggo and this is what i found....

Q. Can I use Zicam Cold Remedy while pregnant?
A. As stated in the 'Warnings' section of the Zicam package insert. if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. you should seek the advice of your physician before using Zicam. Allow the physician to know the only active ingredient in Zicam Cold Remedy is zinc/266 mcgs per dose.

If you ask the pharmasist they will be able to tell you what the chances are of anything happening. I had a bad cold at the beginning and the pharmasist said to take tylonal for the headache and the a antihistamine for the rest of it,and it worked. But you could always ask about the zicam!

See this is something that I didnt know. Like I said you should just ask the pharmasist what they would recommend!

thanks guys.. i guess i'll just have to ask the pharmacist like you said. I went to that website & thats all it would say is high doses are harmful. anything in a high dose is harmful. So its a matter of finding out if 266mcgs is too much.

Yeah, i don't know what is considered a high dose either, but i wanted to share that with you before you took it. Just in case, ya know?

k so i decided against the zicam...what about sudafed?

When I asked the pharmacist, they said some OB's will allow Sudafed for pregnant women. I then asked my OB and he suggested not to take it, many OB's have different opinions.He told me to go with Robitussin.I would ask your OB what he/she personally thinks because they are the person you probably trust the most.

My doc told me I could take benedryl and tylenol when I had my last cold.

my ob said i could take sudafed, but to use it as a last resort. so i suffered thru with just robotussin

I find it funny how some OBs say 1 thing is ok, and other's don't. Mine says ONLY tylenol and benadryl. Try going to http://www.safefetus.com and it tells you the risks of taking different drugs.
But, I would definitely ask your OB before taking ANYTHING.
