re: We are not doctors...

posted 15th Nov '07
I think C was a little harsh, but technically she is right-we aren't docs here.
I think we get a lot of redundancy because of a few reasons... first time baby gaga users who also may not be very site savvy, first time moms who want an answer now and can't be bothered to try a search (which I am totally guilty of)...etc.
The questions will continue, so in my humble opinion it's just a futile effort to post the PSA's telling people to please use a little common sense.

Quoting mama Yomiko:“ Can't do that, because it would clutter up the forums. BUT THERE IS A SEARCH BUTTON and no one knows how to utilize it, it seems.”

LOl spose thats true!, the first page would end up as just stickys XD

Quoting *megan*:“ sorry but its still gonna happen and there is nothing that any post can do about it. So like everyone ... [snip!] ... dont read it. And if no one responds then it will get buried but then who cares? But people respond to them still so let it be.”

Any people I can reach so that they don't ask questions that we're not qualified to answer is good.

I think some people just ask questions like that on here because they want to know other mothers opinions and experiences. It doesn't really bother me personally. Although, people constantly asking when they can have sex again gets a little annoying because the answer is ALWAYS the same..... wait atleast 6 weeks.

See, what people are missing is that there's a big difference between asking "when did you start your baby on solids" and even "what are the signs a baby is ready for solids" and then flat out asking "Should I start my child on solids?"

I'm sorry, but the only person qualified to answer that is the child's doctor, since there are so many factors that are involved to make an INFORMED decision on that question.

Lets all cry about it...

Thank you C, I freakin love you!

Also, it's pretty obvious that she is giving genuine advice on the matter and trying to help. It's sad that the oh so sensitive ones can't see it that way.

Whaaaaaa. I don't know what to do! I don't know when to start my baby on solids....but I'm afraid to ask now!!! ;)

Damn you , C. Always gotta screw everything up for everyone! You mean ole betch.

We have doctors for a reason. I'd like to see less of the same questions over and over but for some reason, I doubt that will happen here.

C- don't take this the wrong way, but you sound exceptionally condescending. Like- "I know it, you should know it, so don't waste MY time."
Well- Don't open the posts! People have a right to ask whatever they want on a public forum. This isn't a private forum, or a niche forum, it's for mommys with infants wanting to know what they should do. Maybe if someone posts "should MY baby start solids" you can be helpful and say "Well, check with you pedi, but here's a link to a list of signs you can look for, and my baby started at..."
Only lawyers ask questions they already know the answers to.

I see you're new here.

Let's just say that myself, and most of the other ladies here, HAVE said that 100,000,000X already. You get sick of it after a while.

Like it or not, these women SHOULD NOT BE ASKING anyone other than their ped. whether or not to start their child on solids. Because, let me say it again, WE ARE NOT DOCTORS.

I don't know if your family has a history of allergies, etc. How would I know if your child is ready for solids? Why do you want to risk your child's safety by taking the advice of laymen instead of your doctor? Most women ask because, and this is gonna piss a LOT of people off but it's true, THEY KNOW THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO WAIT UNTIL 4-6 MONTHS, BUT THEY DON'T WANT TO, SO THEY ASK HERE SO THAT THEY CAN FEEL JUSTIFIED BY FEEDING THEIR FOUR WEEK OLD KID SOLIDS AND SAY "WELL, SO AND SO SAID IT WAS OK".

Yeah well, if something bad happens because you give your four week old solid food on the advice of some random person online, you're going to feel pretty fuckin' bad, now aren't you?

If that makes me condescending, I'll gladly be condescending.

Lets put it this way, if you (the mother of your child) don't know if your own child is ready for solids then how are we supposed to know? Like C. says, we don't know if your child has allergies or what. If we tell you "yeah go ahead" and your child has a bad reaction then are you going to ever trust any advice we give? Its ok to find out when other mommies started but as for your own child its best to ask your pedi.
