Public Service Announcement

posted 12th Nov
This is a public service announcement.

There is no need to continually ask when it is OK to have sex post partum. Your doctor has already provided you with that answer, and it is six weeks.

Your doctor is not an anti-sex nazi, he doesn't sit around and chuckle that he's keeping you from having sex. He says that, because there's a good medical reason to not have sex until you're fully healed post partum. ESPECIALLY if you had a c-section.

A c-section is major surgery. MAJOR SURGERY. You are not supposed to do anything more strenuous for six weeks than pick up your newborn. Why does it not occur to people that SEX is going to be much more strenuous than picking up your baby? Look, we all get horny, but are you PREPARED to have your signficant other tell your new child "sorry mommy died from perforating her uterus stitches, but we just couldn't refrain from having sex!"?

While I understand the general rule is no sex until 6 weeks. My doctor gave me the okay if I was feeling up to it/was no longer hurting. She just cautioned me to go easy (i.e. nothing rough) and to use a condom (for obvious reasons). I had sex at aprox 4 weeks & it wasn't bad or painful.

Just my 2 cents.

My midwife told me the same thing after I had my daughter. She said once the bleeding has stopped and I felt up to it, sex was just fine. We started having sex again four weeks post partum :-) BUT if your doctor cautions six full weeks, then you need to go that full six weeks!

See, that's different if your doctor tells you so. He's checked you out, he knows your condition. Everyone heals at different rates, this is true.

I just get really pissed off at the ladies who are told by their doctors "wait six weeks", then come here knowing they shouldn't really be having sex, yet they're asking just so they can be reassured about making a "bad" decision.

lol I totally get where you're coming from. What I don't understand is your doctor comes in to see you before you even leave the hospital and that's usually when they give you your post-partum instructions. So, why the hell do these women come home and after one week, come on here and start asking "When can I...?" kind of questions. Are all of their doctors just stupid and failed to give them instructions???

Thank you C!

Like I said in BWBB. If I had a nickle for everytime someone made a post like that...I'd be effing rich, I swear!

My husband came home on leave when I had my baby...we hadn't had sex since she was conceived. Although I would have LOVED to have slept with him I didn't. I knew that it wasn't worth it.

Common sense yo!

I'm assuming it's asked a lot because when we are pregnant we are not looking on this discussion board we are in the pregnancy discussion board. After having our baby we come to this one and the question gets asked. Im sure at least once a week it will be asked because there are so many new people coming to this board each week and haven't read the millions of previous posts about the subject because they've been in Pregnancy issuse reading about what are contractions a million times. Not that this is the ONLY thing that gets asked too much, MANY things do just because there are many new people on here and have the same questions as everyone else.
