IF SOMEONE ALTERS YOUR QUOTE

and IF you don't like what they've altered it to , this is grounds for moderation and you can contact a SM or-- if you're the OP, moderate it as "a random attack" and then simply leave a comment to the effect of:

"she altered my quote-- which i deleted for privacy, to make it look like i said i was gang-banged by thirty hairy midgets, when i really was gang-banged by the boston celtics".

altering someone's words to look other than they are is technically and legally libel, but we're not a court of law here and it's not necessarily a big deal if you're just messing around amongst friends, but otherwise it can be a serious issue... and people who do it deserve to be penalized for it.

the take home message of this topic is: if someone alters your quote and YOU don't like it, you can request/moderate the post as an attack as it is libel.

for the mods and supermods: you don't have to watch for this on the forums, as it will only happen at the request of the person being quoted in the first place.

Right. The person has to request it, moderators aren't supposed to be looking for these and reporting or flagging them themselves.
