haha WOW funny... I was looking up waterbirths on google and this thread came up! I can't beleive that one chick who thinks it is unnatural to let her own body and instincts take charge of the birthing experience.... I WISH I had chosen this option for my first born but by the time I changed my mind it was too late in the game to find a midwife with availability and I went along with the hospital plan. I have to say, my hospital experience wasn't terrible, but there were times when I was extremely unahppy and felt completely out of control and like they thought I was beneath them (hence why I switched hospitals last minute!). This time I am doing an all natural at home birth and most likely will deliver in water. I think it is a lot more natural than taking and epidural and being so numb that I couldn't tell my baby was distressed until I noticed her heart rate plummit...and I had to mention it 3 times before they beleived me that she was really distressed.

Anyways, I'm not saying natural at home births are for everyone, and over all I did enjoy my first birthing experience but it is for the women to decide what makes her more comfortable...no doctor or other woman can say how natural/unnatural another woman's birthing experience is or will be just because they have their own opinions and ways of doing things. Everyone is different and deserves to choose what feels natural to them.

i am thinking about water birth, but not at home.....im going to talk to my doc and see if she will do it this way, some of the hospitals have tubs you can give birth into...... i dont want to do it at home since this is my first one , im a little scared to do it there.

I wanted to do a home waterbirth....
But, becasue we moved out-of-province, we have to do the birth at not-my-house (my inlaws, actually!) and they're not OK with waterbirth. Fingers crossed for the next one, though!

Also, to the poster who thinks it's unnatural for babies to be born into the water- what about babies who are born with the membranes intact? It's not terribly common, but it definitely happens!

And don't you think that after 9 months of living and developing in water, the baby would be more familiar with water than with cold air?
