yeah the two midwiferey clinics are about 23mins away, so I would rather go to the OB because it's 10min away , but I definitely would prefer a midwife over an OB. I will have to wait and see I guess. I will probably end up going to the Midwife, but we'll see.

You can always switch halfway through. Why not make an ob appointment now, then wait a month or so to make a midwife appointment. Have you applied yet for medicaid?

I applied the 19th, but they denied me and switched me to CHP+, I sent them my proof of pregnancy about a week ago so I am just waiting to hear from them now. I called the midwife clinic to make an appointment, but without insurance on file, I can't make one yet. I hope they hurry it up!

I am so pissed off. went for my 33w check today with the midwife who informed me that due to my previous section, i would need continuous monitoring- which was one of the things i didn't want. She says she can do it radiotelemetry and that i can go in the water but if poor signal, baby needs a scalp electrode. I object to this as well as that means breaking my waters which puts the stop watch on and makes it more ikely they will intervene. Also they automatically put a drip in, another thing i dont want 1) because they hurt and more importantly 2) because as a hypnobirther, its a medical intervention that i think unnecessary and how can you have a "natural" experience when you are rigged up to wires and tubes? They also want to actively manage my 3rd stage. I had planned to breast feed to encourage placental detachment. I would agree to the injection if i was bleeding heavily but i wish they wouldn't just assume that its ok. Its not. I have researched online for medical journals and the consensus is that continuous monitoring does not affect the outcome of your birth, just decreases neonatal seizures which happens only 1 in 650 ish people so is rare. I will be fighting this corner when i see my ob in 2 weeks. They have one angry fired up mama on their hands. I will not just take this. One more reason to stay at home till its time for the baby to come out. They will have to catch me first. Sorry for the rant

wow that's ridiculous   what a crappy midwife. I'd be pissed if mine just suddenly said she would & wouldn't do all this stuff I'm against doing...

the midwife is pretty good, i think she was just warning me. This is not her policy, it is teh hospitals and i have no choice on where i give birth, its the only public hospital in the area. its the ob's that make these ridiculous rules to cover their backs and damn the womens opinion for even thinking let alone refusing. when will people realise that this is the safer option? i do not want to be a number, another proceedure. I have the right to chose the way i bring my baby into the world. I'm making the decision after informed research. i'm not a naieve 1st timer, I'm a 36 year old educated women who has been subject to the "system" before and who hated it, I have a voice and i will use it.

I hope that all goes in your favor I think that you can refuse those things at the hospital though. I did allow them to put the internal monitor on me and I was still allowed to get up and walk around my bed but I was more confined. They also would unhook things so I could go to the bathroom and so forth. Thankfully labor was fast and I wasn't confined very long. I was 7 cm when they did the internal monitor and then it wasn't an hour later i was 10 cm.

Even after 2 c-sections, you plan to labor at home for as long as you can? im just asking cause i wasnt sure what to do once that time came for me and ive only had 1 c-section.

Yes, I've done a ton of researched and read lot of birth blogs/storys. I feel my chances will be better if I labor at home and have little to no interventions! I have a doula/midwife friend also who will be around, But I will be heading to the hospital when it is time. I was induced way before I was ready with my 1st son, and there where tons of interventions and I had no clue about any of them, and I was scared into another c-section by the same dr. I never researched anything, I figured I could trust the dr. But after having my last child I researched and i feel this is the best.

well, it looks like im gonna have to do some more research! already have it planned with my doctor to have a VBAC i just have a feeling that once i get to the hospital (if its too early) theyll opt for a c-section way too soon. with my first, i accepted the pitocin and all. didnt know how safe it was to stay home even after c-sections although i heard about a bunch of women who have had home births. guess its nice to know other women are staying home longer like i should have with my daughter. hopefully this time will be much different! when are you due?

So I'm due in August with my second, I had my first son born via emergency c section, and I really want my VBAC. The ican site is under construction- so many of the links in OP aren't working for me. But I just had a few questions that maybe some of your ladies could help me out with

Is there anyway I could call a hospital and ask if they have a VBAC ban, and if they don't- ask for providers that are also VBAC supporting? (and who would I call, L&D? Or someone else)

How long into pregnancy can you switch providers? I finally have another appointment where I can ask questions and such with my doctor rather than the NP who kept shoving my questions aside. But by the time that happens, I'll be 12 and 5. If she tells me no one in her office is VBAC supporting, is it too late to switch? I know of an office that has a high success rate for VBACs

I just found out I have HPV, will that affect my ability to be able to have a VBAC?
