I still wouldn't pay any attention to your doctor on that but that is just my opinion. And sunny side position can make it alot harder to push out b/c the head cannot mold to come out that way due to the bone running across the childs face. There was a demonstration in my lamaze class of baby in head down coming out vs baby sunny side up and how it can make the pushing stage alot longer and some can get stuck at the pubic bone area if the face doesn't move (which is what happened to me with my first). I had a successful VBAC in January and it only took 40 mins to push with the head in the right position versus the 2 hours I pushed with my first to end in a c-section. I just kept telling myself that my body will not let me down. I also did squats near the end almost daily by opening my legs as wide as I could and I would hold onto the bathroom sink and do a very deep squat and hold it for 15 secs+ each time. This will help the head get more engaged and help with widening your pelvic region (at least that is what I was told).

My DS was posterior - face up- too. He was also face presentation, though -trying to come out nose first.. Being on your hands and knees is the best way to get them to turn from the posterior position, and to help relieve the back labor!! So many women are told their baby gets stuck because they have a small pelvis   But I think they're usually just trying to speed the process along. Babies can very easily be born posterior anyway, just takes some time and the right position...

Oh, wow.. you got so far too!! Did they have you laying down while pushing?

I'm sure it would hurt really bad, whether you have a narrow pelvis or not!!

Yes I was laying down and about 1 1/2 into pushing I was told to try to push on my side to see if the head would rotate. I remember thinking that maybe if they would have let me get upright in a squatting position that I could have gotten her out but I was young and never thought of that happening in a million years but was better educated with my VBAC.

Yeah, I know about not feeling as educated the first time around! Squatting or hands & knees is the best position for pushing out a posterior baby. It gives them more room. My SIL just recently delivered her son posterior on her hands & knees at home no problem.. It's one of those things I always thought was really strange, to have a baby on your hands & knees like you're an animal or something, lol!.. But your instincts tell you to get into certain positions for a reason!!
With my DS, I was on pitocin after awhile, so they wouldn't let me out of bed  .. so the most I could do was turn on my side to try to get him to turn. I got dilated to 7, though. Wanting to get out of bed was about the only thing I could focus on at that time!!

Oh, they had broken my water before hand too, to try to speed things along.. So since they had done that, it was very unlikely that he'd be able to turn! That always seems to be mistake number 1 right there.. and why most babies get 'stuck'!

Yup.. same thing happened to my best friend and my SIL who both ended up with c-sections. That's why I feel so opposed to unnecessary intervention now   All the hospital protocols are causing more c-sections or assisted births.   The water being broken & the pitocin put so much distress on the baby too!

Hey ladies im still in ah that i had my vbac. I am so happy

I went in on sept 28th at 7 am to get induced. I was hooked up to pit and iv fluid right away.I was 1cm 30% efaced I felt contractions right away but we took it aslow to make sure my uterus could handle it. by 7pm I was in full blown active labor and in pain they checked me and i was a 4/5. so i got the epi around 10pm. It took 40 + mins to place in they tried three different areas. finally got it. I was ok for about a hour or two and all of a sudden i could feelthe contractions in my vagina and it was intense. I had them come give m more epi but it didnt work they asked if i wanted more but i declined. So around 3am with every painful contraction in my vagina i was feeling pressure. so she went to call the doctor. doctor was finishing up in the other room and would be there shortly. so at first i was ok. then i was like out smurf i need to be checked now. so the nurse was like ok i wont wait for the doctor let me see. I was fully dilated she had my do a trial push and instantly told me to stop. well my body wouldnt stop pushing. finally doctor came in and it was time to push. I push about 5 time 3 of the times we short pushes. and he was out. 8lbs 2.2 oz and 20 and a half inches. the most handsome boy in the world. he instantly went on the boob like a pro.I tore where there was a old scar and had some bleeding. it was everything i wanted it to be. I wanted to go with out pain meds but after 13 hours i was tired and knew it had tried. I am so happy how it turned out. from all the fluid i am really swollen. but its going down slowly.

he is so lovely 4g1b well done
i spoke to my midwife and she is totally amazing. We are very intune about this birth and i really feel she is going to help me vbac. She has said her and her partner have been around the block enough times that alot of the local obstetricians know to stay away. she even said they aren't allowed into the room without her asking. i feel she will really advocate for me and she has said she will have one of the most laid back ob's just in case on stand by that she knows and trusts. She is great about me hypnobirthing and has said all good, i can be out 4hours after as long as baby has fed twice, ive peed poohed and eaten and she will visit me at home.. in one conversation i have gone from being pertrified to really positive. Midwifes rock.
