Maclaren Volo or Zooper Salsa?

posted 16th Jan '07
Hello,
I "need" a pool stroller for my 8 month old....so I would like to get one with mesh fabric - I really like the way the Zooper looks but have read that the mesh is scratchy and the hood pops off when being folded...but it has nice accessories...

I was only able to see the Maclaren in a store and it looks very sturdy and has raving reviews. I am only worried about it being too tippy. It's a tad lighter than the Salsa and the mesh is very soft.

DO NOT GET THE ZOOPER SALSA!!!!!

I don't have personal experience with the Volo, but I do have a Maclaren Twin Traveller (which I love), so I know the quality is there with the Maclaren. I don't know how many thousand times I now wish I had purchased a Volo. The 2006s are ALL on sale right now, most of them below $100, even. Check out www.albeebaby.com-- a GREAT vendor with whom I have had wonderful purchase experiences. You might even look to see what "upgraded" Maclarens are on sale with the arrival of the 2007s impending.

Back to the Salsa: I purchased a Salsa this past summer for my then-six month old for a trip. The soft seat liner does not attach to the top of the seat, so it scoots down constantly, taking Baby with it! My dd constantly fussed in the thing, as she was carried lower and lower, slumpier and slumpier. The hood pops off every single time you close it. It collapsed on me when I kicked the release mechanism in the mall. It is TERRIBLE to steer, even on hard, perfectly level mall flooring; impossible to steer on anything else. The final straw was when we discovered a manufacturing defect: the snaps that allow the seat to be upright versus the minimal recline were ovular-shaped, and unusable, therefore rendering the seat permanently in the recline position. My dd HATED that, too!!!! Zooper sent a whole new seat, but these snaps had the same problem. I never even installed it (you can unscrew the whole seat assembly). I called the store where I purchased it (not albeebaby) and they very graciously replaced it with the next Zooper model up, the Twist, which I really do love. It is like they were made by two different companies; the quality is 10000% better. They also informed me they had so many complaints about the Salsa that they will no longer be selling it, but intended to keep the rest of the Zooper line because everything else was superb. HOPE THIS INFO HELPS, and if you did purchase the Zooper, return it!

Hello,
thank you for your reply - I had totally forgotten that I posted here....I have been researching like a crazy person and I did read negative reviews about the Salsa and I also heard that the mesh is pretty uncomfortable (and the Volo got awesome reviews and I like how soft the mesh is. I did come across the Twist as well and I am very interested in these. I definitely want to get a Volo still...but maybe not until my baby is a little older.
So I am deciding between

Zooper Twist (old style or new style?)
Inglesina Trip
Rock Star Baby/Esprit Candy
or my favourite so far (but also a little bit out of my price range...) the new Joovy Groove (comes out March/April)

What do you think?

Thanks.
Rica

My Zooper Twist is a 2006, so must be "old" style I presume. I still really love it. I don't know anything about the others. Looking back, I still would have gotten a Volo, because the Twist is slightly bigger and more of a "standard" stroller rather than a travel stroller, which I think will have more long-term appeal for my family. But I am very grateful to the store for "upgrading" me for no extra charge from the wretched Salsa.
