posted 18th Oct '07
this has nothing to do with pregnancy or being pregnant.

i have to go to court today for a speeding ticket that i got about a month ago and i was wondering if you need a lawyer or can i just go and represent myself?

It is just a speeding ticket, you can represent yourself.

They usually give you an option of how you want to plead.
Guilty, not guilty or no contest.
Guilty, they will give you what you need to do and pay.
Not guilty or no contest, you will have to go back for a trial.

Nope, you just show up.. talk to the judge, and pay your ticket.

I admit... I got my first speeding ticket when I was 16. My parents had me pay for it since I had a job which was fine, but once I got in there I started crying like a little baby. haha

I always just go by myself ...I say not guilty and that my cruise control was set at 9MPH over whatever the speed limit was in the area that I got the ticket ....usually works.

...or, my thing when I moved here while I still had WA plates was "I'm new to the area and I honestly that it was a __MPH zone, I've only been in that area a couple times"

....

For a simple speeding ticket, you can represent yourself.

If your record is clean, you can request a 1-year deferrment .. meaning you will be put on probation for a year. If you stay clean, then ur speeding ticket will not show on your record. If you are cited again within that year, you will end up paying for both infractions.

I think the procedure in court is you say guilty, and request one year deferrment. You will still have to pay some kind of fee but the ticket itself wont show on your record.

good luck!

I had the same problem, and I live in VA, where we have all these crazy new laws. I got a reckless driving charge, I went to court in Jan, thank god i didnt get a lawyer because my ticket ended up being a lot less then expected, $300. In VA, they passed this law where its like $300 a year for 3 YEARS PLUS another fee. its crazy high!!
