Roller skating?

posted 19th Jun '10
McKenzie was invited to a roller skating birthday today. I am on the fence on if I should let her skate or not. If she skates I will definitely skate with her but I'm nervous about broken bones and such. She is only 2. Would you let your 2 year old go roller skating? Has your 2 year old done it before? Any advice/experience is appreciated. Thanks ladies!

OH yeah..i wouldn't worry about broken bones...even if she falls..she doesn't have far to go.

In fact..it's BEST to teach her that stuff now..it's much harder to learn later.
Plus..she'll have a lot of fun and you'll maybe get some hilarious video.

The skating rink here has a kiddie area, will there be a toddler/slow skater area where you are going? I think it would be fine. I would take Adison. I think you should try it out.

We went and she had a blast. No kiddie area but we stayed in the middle and people stayed out of that area.

A few but the rink was so dark and I left my camera at home. I will post some soon. I will PT you though because I don't feel comfortable sharing pics of here on babygaga anymore.

What's the new crap with pictures?

I can't wait to get my lo on skates.
There's a rink a half hour or so away from here that does a moms and babies skating thing...you can bring strollers...Not nearly as much fun as "Stroller Derby" ought to be (no knocking other moms/strollers down, I assume), but it still sounds like fun. I lived on skates as a kid and got a new pair a year ago that I am still too chickensmurf to take outside

There was a lady doing that. I had no idea that the rink would be cool with that. I guess I know if there is ever another baby.

Oh geez, we go skating all the time with my nephew and he's 5 mos shy of being 2. He uses regular skates and all... not the cheesy strap-on kiddy skates either. He always wears a helmet, but we don't do knee/elbow pads. He does really well and can sometimes even let go of our hand and take a few steps/glides, but he's also a very active kid. He also wears a helmet.
