Migraines

Well I thought that I'd make it my entire pregnancy without having to go to the er...I suppose I jinxed myself! Yesterday I felt really tired and kinda queasy but thats normal for me sometimes, so I layed down and took a nap and then when I woke up I had a headache that slowly developed into a migrane, and then I could not stop throwing up! I would sip water and even throw that up all at the same time while I had this horrible migraine! So I felt that something wasnt right and had my bf take me to the hospital, they checked the baby first and he's just fine and thought that maybe I just ate something funny or that the headache was so bad that it caused me to throw up. They gave me a morphine shot and sent me on my way, I dont know what to do about these headaches because tylenol doesnt do shit! Any remedies on migraines ladies?

I've suffered from migraines for the last 4-5 years. They actually got better when I became pregnant. The doctor said they would probably get worse with the pregnancy....I guess I was lucky. However, I did have one major migraine attack. I spoke with one of the perinatologists and he said it was o.k. to take my Max-alt. Have you ever been prescribed that? It didn't take the migraine away completely but it did take the edge off. The perinatologist assured me it was totally safe and even told me of a study that was done on pregnant women who took Max-alt.
From my experience Morphine and other "pain relievers" make my headache worse. You can get what's called a re-bound headache. I try to stay away from that type of stuff. I hope this helps.

I have suffered from migraines since I was 12 I am now 22, and all I have found that really works is letting them take there normal coarse. I had 2 brutal ones in my first trimester, I thought I was dying, they would fade and then come back and nothing worked except throwing up and passing out. There is really nothing you can take, although my doctor told me that he could prescribe tylenol with codine because the advantages are better then the disadvantages during pregnancy...I passed and luckily didnt get another one. You are right tylenol doesnt do shit. Make sure you try and stay hydrated event though you are throwing up because that can only prolong the pain. There is also a special anti-nausea medication you can get that is safe during pregnancy since gravol is not premited, although I dont know what its called. Make sure when you have one that you lay down in a dark room with limited sounds because light and noise can only increase the pain. Good Luck, if they persist talk to your doctor about the codine maybe...

i've had really horrible migraines since i was a kid, and for me, if i take tylenol or another pain med right when i start feeling a little twinge in my head, they go away and i don't have to suffer through the passing out and throwing up. but they've gotten better with pregnancy so far. good luck though!

I have suffered from migraines for 20+ yrs. I have yet to find a prescription med that works - Aleve is the only thing that works for me. with my first 2 pregnancies, I didn't have migraines, but I have had a couple with this one. the only thing I can do now, since I can not take Aleve, is let it go away on it's own. if I can, I will go into a dark room, get under a blanket & go back to sleep.
you may want to try ginger tea to try to ease the nasuea, though. I will see if I can come up with any other alternatives.

I have been suffering from migraines and chronic headaches for the last 12 years. Now that I'm pregnant they are that much worse, mainly because I can't take my preventive medication and medication for the onset.
After talking with my doctor and my neurologist and there are only a few medications that they consider pregnancy safe for migraines and they are Fioricet, Tylenol 3 and Percicet (sp). Of course they are others they can give you but those are worse case scenarios and they only give them out as needed, but they can cause harm to your baby. I would discuss with your doctor what options you can take.
Also try putting a cold compress on your forehead and lay in a dark, cool room. This can some times help.
