Quoting Adoption is Awesome:“ Oh Lily - How wonderful for you. How long do you have to stay in Ethopia? Do you have the room ready yet? ”

Uh....the room has been ready for over a year.   About a year and a half actually, but we put the bedding in last July. It's sat there empty

We'll be traveling/in ET for about 2 weeks.

And you're naming her Lily I take it? Very pretty name. We have friends who have a daughter named Lillianna and I like that too. Two weeks is great. We were told we would have to be in country for 4-6 weeks for Russia and we wern't able to do that.

I have my room started and i've gone as far as I'm going to until we get the call. I ordered a crib because they take like 12 weeks to order and also the last one came in smelling like varnish so I wanted it to air out.

Hello mama's!!
We start our process in Sept to try and adopt a baby girl. I dont know where we will start or if it will be international or domestic (more than likely we will try for domestic) but that's when we will start our journey. I'm sure this thread will come in handy in the next couple of months and I'd love to read stories of the mom's who have already adopted and follow the stories of the moms going through it.

Quoting Adoption is Awesome:“ Not sure if there are enough of us or not, but I thought I'd start a thread for those of us who have adopted or are in the process of adopting. Any takers?”
We're trying to find a birthmother as well. We just decided to adopt March 2010. It's been an over-whelming process. So much information is tossed your way, feels like you're climbing a mountain. My husband & I have been married 11 yrs. and we just want to be parents. There is nothing more in this world, I want more than to be a mommy. Sometimes it feels like it's never going to happen but I have faith that one day it will... I hope sooner than later. So I'm all about joining this adoptive parent thread.

Melina, being in the Army might work towards your advantage. Our first birthfamily chose in in part because my husband was in the Army. We also had another birthmother call us from an Army base!

Welcome to this thread!

Have you considered making up a poster or cards and leaving them at the hospital and other places around base?

Can't do that, we live in Germany....and it's a smaller post so we use the German hospitals. I wish it was that simple for us. It's soooo complicated BUT just gotta roll with the punches. Eventually it'll happen for us, I have to believe that.

Thanks for the welcome, I'm excited to talk to other ppl. who have been through the adoption process or are currently trying to adopt. And if you guys run into birthmom who are considering adoption, inform them we are wanting to adopt a baby. I agree that being an Army family has it's advantages but when you're stationed overseas; I think it makes the process of adopting a tad bit more difficult. Especially when you're just starting out. Just trying to have a home study done has been over-whelming.

Yes, we are naming her lily. We are keeping her Ethiopian name as her middle name. We also found out that the lily is the national flower of Ethiopia, so it was very fitting.

Melissa - your baby is so cute.
Kat - How are you holding up?
Melina - Where does the baby need to be from? USA, Germany? Or does it matter?
Mama C - feel free to PM. We have had a very smooth process both the first time and so far the second time.
Lily's Mom - Do you get Adoptive Family's magazine? There is a lot on International Adoption in there. Also what are you doing to stay sane during your wait?

lol That is ok, Ayla was bald till she was over 1. Your daughter is gorgeous. Such a nice picture. My son has a massive head if curls.

I have heard in the states it is a lot of money to adopt. I think that is so sad and I also think that is what holds back a lot of people from adopting that would. We live in Canada and the only thing we had to pay for is the $20 police check. What kind of process was it for you? Did it put on a lot of financial strain?
