Quoting Adoption is Awesome:“ Our birthfamily found us on parentprofiles.com. I talked to our birthmother right before Mother's day ... [snip!] ... for a very long time and now they feel like family to us. All 4 of us were in the delivery room when our daughter was born. ”

Is it an open adoption?

Yes - our adoption is open. I think most domestic adoptions are open these days.

Brown-Eyed-Girl - did you and your husbad decide if you were going to start the process yet? I remember you and I pmed about it awhile back.

Also - I am a classic name lover too. I need to get that banner in my profile somehow. We named our daughter Genevieve Ruth.

No. We haven't been actively TTC for a year. He's been out of the country. We have things going on in our lives that means we'll be in different states for awhile and we haven't been evaluated by a fertility specialist. I'd like to try for one our own and then adopt.

I love your daughter's name. The siggies are on the first page of the Classic Name Lovers thread.

Are there any other adoptive parents or hopefuls that want to join this thread?

Kat - how was your weekend?

Our Adoption cards arrived so now I'm handing them out to everyone. The first time around this was hard because people didn't know what to do with them. Now I've got an army distributing these cards everywhere. I feel like we have so much more support this time as everyone in our lives understands the process so much better.

Wish we had a sticky thread for this!!! It seems us AP/PAPs are few and far between on here.

We've been on our journey for over 2 years. Domestic first, then switched to international 6 months ago (December)...got our referral in March, passed court in May, waiting for travel assignment!!!!

I'm an adoptive mother hopeful.   I like to think that I take more of a back seat, because I think so many other women deserve to adopt way before me. I'd like to do a private adoption, where I can reach out to a mom who was considering abortion, or stressed about not wanting to parent, and do adoption that way.

I'm a surro mom, so I have babies for wonderful couples that have been through failed adoptions, infertility, and are practically on their last attempt at parenthood because they have already been through so much. I love it. I wish I could be a surro until my eggs dry up. SO says he hopes I don't do it for that long!!

I've always wanted to adopt. I give my children to wonderful couples, and they accept him/her as their own. So I've always wanted to adopt and love that child like my own. Just something I've always wanted to experience I guess. I think every child is a gift from god and deserves a wonderful life. We decided to have our children 5 years apart, so I am doing many surrogacies in between. I think we are going to do a home study next year, and *IF* an opportunity presents itself, I would be so happy. If not, I'll just keep helping others achieve being a parent from the sidelines by way of 'baby baking'.

My weekend was good. Just spent quality time home with my partner. She is feeling under
the weather so I have been taking care of her. We have been talking more and more about adoptiong
and everyday I just get doubts that this is never going to happen. Our caseworker called us last week
and told us about a 6 year old boy who has autism that they need an adoptive home for..of course we
said YES..but there are other agencies that want him too so its up in the air. Some days I feel so good
about this, like its going to happen any day..and then for a few days I think Im never going to become
a mama...*Sigh* if only this were easier.. How was your weekend

Waiting on Lily - Where are you adopting from? Are you excited or WHAT!???

Kat - You have to remain positive. I don't know anyone who has wanted to adopt and totally failed and that includes a gay couple in Seattle who have a wonderful newborn baby boy.

My weekend was ok. We're trying so hard to reel in our spending. I want to save for this next adoption and also get the college funds going. So we cooked every meal and just spent time with friends.

I dropped my blackberry in the toilet and was besides myself. I use it to check my parentprofile mailbox. My neighbor calls it my "digital uterus". Ha.

Mommy Love - I hope this isn't too personal, but do you get paid to surrogate? I have always wondered how that process worked.

I have watched shows about surrogacy and after going through the adoption process once I can see how people get hooked on giving that ultimate "gift" to a family who can not have a child. I think so many of the women who say they would prefer to abort than to put their baby up for adoption are really missing out on that experience. I'm sure our birthfamily had mixed emotions at the hospital when our little girl was born, but for the most part they seemed so filled with joy. What an amazing experience.

I know. I have had days like that. I think i'm patient becuase everything has moved fast. We got pregnant on the first try all three times (but sadly those ended in miscarriage) then when we went to adopt the first time it was fast. In fact our daughter is only 4 months older than our first bio baby would have been had he/she survived.

But I will say this... I feel like there are so few things in life that are truely as EXCITING as the adoption wait. I mean you could get a call tomorrow morning and have a baby in your arms by next weekend! Or, like you said - it could be awhile. You just don't know. It's totally out of your control. Kind of a rush to me actually.

I have been trying to figure out what I can do to be constructive over the summer instead of hitting the "refresh" button on my email 20 times an hour.

LOL I know exactly what you mean...We do have some summer trips planned. For my birthday (July 24th) my partner has surprised me with a weekend beach getaway to see my FAVORITE singer Melissa Etheridge in Atlantic City NJ. Im VERY excited about that. We are also planning to go on vacation with my family to Gatlinburg TN. While in the mix of planning our wedding for next May lol.
