Plus Size & Pregers

posted 8th Oct

Is there any plus size moms to be out there that would like to share there concerns? This will be my second pregnancy being plus size. Of course I would like to be of normal size but I am not so I have to deal. I have a 13 month old baby girl and now I am in my 6th week of this pregnancy. Husband and I are very excited and are hoping for a boy but will be fine with whatever God blesses us with. His family does not have a grandson to keep the name going so they are pushing for a boy.

I had just started to loose weight when we found out I was pregers.   I was so hoping to have lost some real weight before I went for round 2. I would actually like to have a chance to really look pregnant.

Finally someone else on here. I feel bad because I see all these woman on here that are super skinny and look so cute with their baby bumps. I just wished that I looked like that but I have all these streach marks and a few rolls. This also is my second pregnancy (actually it is my 4th time being pregnant, but only one has been to term) and my son is 15 months old. I too have lost weight and found out I was pregnant about 3 weeks ago. After having my son I weighed 213 and then back in July my highest of 240, I started to diet and am now down to 210 and I was feeling good and just happen to decide to get a test because I was a week late, which isn't rare and when I do buy them I will start that day or the day after, but this time it came out positive and I started to freak out a little. I was angry because I have worked out so hard to lose weight and now I am going to be having another baby. I just think that now I am a little more health aware and will be able to control my weight better and maybe I might show sooner with this pregnancy.
I would like to keep in contact with you and go through the journey together.

Sarah,

I kept trying to find a pluse size and pregers topic so I decided to start one myself. Thanks for responding. I am bigger than you but I understand the weight lose thing and then finding out you are pregnant. The fact that you last the weight could be why you are pregnant. With you having a 15 month old it sounds like we are in the same boat. When are you due?

Sarah and Carmen,

I too am plus sized and pregnant (for the first time.) I actually had an embarrassing incident happen tonight when I went to the local drug store to buy antacid for my heartburn.

I'm 33 weeks pregnant (8 months) and very obviously pregnant.. or so I thought. As I asked the pharmacist what over the counter antacids to use she gave me a general answer and when I asked "I can take all that pregnant?" she looked shocked and suprised that I was expecting. "You're 8 months pregnant? Really?" she said.

I had on a fitting black top and my maternity jeans. I can't see how someone couldn't tell I was pregnant. I was a little sad that anyone could think I was just fat with a humongous belly.

I too was losing weight (I had lost 30 lbs in 6 weeks) when I found out I was unexpectedly (but happily) expecting. I had my thyroid removed due to possible cancer a year and a half ago and that with poor eating habits and laziness had caused me to get really big. I was 210 when I got pregnant and now I'm 260. UGH..

The only good thing is that I was wearing size 16-18 when I got pregnant and I'm still that size pretty much in maternity clothes. I'm not sure how, but I'm still wearing all of the same size 18 (or 1x) clothes in maternity.

By the way, Motherhood Maternity has the best jeans and plus size underwear!

I really hope the next pregnancy I have I will get to a better weight so I can be "cute pregnant" like you guys are saying.

I'm due Nov. 26th but have a scheduled C-section Nov. 19th right now.

Plus size here  . I weighed 265 two years ago. I had some health problems and the doctor told me I had PCOS and if I ever wanted to have a baby, I needed to loose weight. So far I have lost almost 50 pounds. I lost 30 pounds before I got pregnant, another 20 after I found out I was pregnant (morning sickness).

I have been worried a little cause I wear size 24 clothes. When you go into stores, most the time its hard to find that size, let alone higher than that. Once I start showing, I am not sure where to get clothes at. My mom took me shopping this weekend and was able to find a few tops at size 28/30, but nothing higher.

Hi all, I'm a plus sized mama too! My 1st boy is 5 years old. I wear a 20-22, BTW. I was trying for a year to get pregnant and was told to lose 10% of my body weight. I lost 6 lbs and BAM! I was preggers! I totally under stand how you wanted to lose more, cause I did too! But my doctor says that if I gain less than 15lbs, (I've only gained 10 so far) and breastfeed, I'll end up losing it quicker. I guess I'll lose 25 lbs just by giving birth! I just hope that I won't have many complications, as I was just diagnosed w/gestational diabetes. I kinda feel like I did it to myself.

Here is a couple sites of plus maternity clothes:

Not sure of your $$ situation, but it's what I've looked at so far. Also, some styles now are babydoll tops and flowy and those are good for a baby belly.

Alright, now that I've written a novel..   Congrats mamas![/list]

I dont feel so alone any more i too look at the pics of the tiny woman on here that are just belly and some have even said they havent gained any weight and they are 7 mo plus pregnant. good for them but i wanna wear cute sexy mamma clothes toshow my belly but im all scared up with c section scars and laparascopy scars and laparatomy scars and from my appendix being removed the list goes on.
I started working out again after my appedix was removed in may 07 i lost 35 pounds i went from 190 down to 155 from size 16-12 then on sept 15 i got pregnant. i was really working so hard and i still am working out even though i am high risk ive lost 6 pregnancies due to endo and high blood press and blood clotting problems and pcos, well i think that by all of us working out andgettting pregnant our partners must of found it attractive and the result pregnant!
I am 5 wks 1 day pregnant I have Two Boys 7 and 17 months. well now i know where to post my messages this was a good idea

I'm a little over 23 weeks pregnant, and I've only gained about a pound. I weighed about 205 to begin with and I can still wear the same size and style clothing I wore before I got pregnant (18/20). The weird thing is, the baby is growing normally and is also growing pretty fast. I measured about a week later than they thought, which would put me at 24 weeks. The other weird thing is that I'm not even showing yet. The only difference is that my belly is firmer and not completely all fat.
And I know the feeling of asking the pharmacist what you can take for heartburn while pregnant. She just looked at me like I was lying or crazy, but didn't say anything (thankfully).

i was quite frightened that i was the only big girl on here. i absolutely refuse to tell ya'll how much i weigh, but, it's more than any of you have listed. this is my second pregnancy. first one ended in a miscarriage at 9 weeks. i am currently 9 1/2 weeks. i had an ultrasound done today because there were some concerns because of the previous m/c and i was cramping and bleeding. MY BABY IS PERFECTLY HEALTHY!!! i cannot even begin to tell you how big my sigh of relief was. LOL heart rate of 171 BPM. of course, there's still a little worry there. especially since i am such a big girl anyway. but, i'm trusting God this time that it is His will that i don't have to go through that again. :-) HOORAY FOR THE BIG GIRLS!!! i'm so happy i'm not alone.

I love this topic! I too am a big girl. Before I got pregnant I was 215, but I'm only 5'4", so that's a lot of weight to carry on a short frame. I'm having major self esteem issues with being pregnant. This is my 1st pregnancy, and I am having TWINS! That means my doctor wants me to gain 45 lbs. I've done a pretty good job of that so far, I've already gained 30.... yuck.
I'm only 25 weeks, but already measuring at 30 weeks. So, needless to say, my belly is already HUGE! When I'm 30 weeks, the doctor said I should be measuring at 40. I'm just hoping to not gain too much more, but of course I'm going into my 3rd trimester where I'm supposedly going to gain the most, right?   Maybe it'll be easier to lose since I'll be breastfeeding 2 little ones. I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

Congrats to all the big and beautiful mommies to be!

Ha ha, no you ladies are not alone. We were just in hiding.... shhhh! Lol. The majority of you seem to be either new, or just don't post regularly. I'm on here quite often and you ladies can feel free to message me.

I am between 5'4" and 5'5". I weigh about 240lbs right now, which is 5 lbs down from my pre-pregnancy weight. Not too bad considering I will be 21 weeks tomorrow (Wednesday). I wear about a size 18 to a 20. This will be my first child, and me and my hubby honestly thought it would never happen (took 4 years). I too was trying to lose weight before I got pregnant. It is a little disappointing not to have the cute belly like the thin girls on here, but oh well. I am showing. My tummy definitely sticks out farther. But I never took any photos, so can't really compare. I just know I can't button my pre-pregnancy pants. And I think the 5lbs I lost was all out of my butt!   But so far everything is going great. I'm due Feb 20th with a little girl (hopefully, don't think a boy would look right wearing pink flowers lol). Hmmm.... think that about covers it.

Also.... I got my maternity clothes from JCPenney.com. I used to work for JCPenney and I love the quality and price of their clothes. Of course I couldn't find ANYTHING in any store around here, so I had to order online. But I was really pleased.

Maybe I'll be brave and take a pic this coming weekend.

Carmen: I don't know exactly the due date yet, but according to the sites I am due around May 20. I have very irregular periods, which go to 3-4 period a year and the one I had in August was something like 63 days apart, so I don't know how it happened but it did. We tried for 7 years to have a baby and I had been on provera (meds to help me have a period every 3 months) for about 8 years off and on. Then when we were married for 2 years and still no baby and we tried the fertility drug clomid and that still didn't work, we decided to adopt a little girl, she is now 5. Then I decided we would try clomid and provera again in late 2004 and got pregnant, but lost the baby at 8 weeks. They told me that I need to wait a year before trying again or atleat 6 months because I had a D&C to clean me out from the miscarriage in February of 05. Well I waited as long as I could and then in September of 05 I decided to try one more time and this time I took a really high dose of clomid and we went on vacation to Vegas in that time frame. As the saying goes "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" didn't ring very true, because we brought back the perfect souviner! Yup, I was pregnant and I carried to term and we had a baby boy in June of 2006.
So as you can tell I don't ovulate on my own or really have periods, so I was surprised at the test coming out positive, but now I am starting to get used to the idea of it. I hit the 8 week mark today, go to the doc tomorrow, because they wouldn't see me until I was 8 weeks along.
I breastfed my son and I still gained weight, infact I am still breastfeeding and pregnant. He isn't ready to give up, but eventually I will try and wean. I don't know if the doc will have a problem with it or not, but as long as this baby stays viable I will be happy. His pediatrition says that she is fine with it, but some OB are not.
The one good thing about being plus size and pregnant is getting to wear MY clothes for most of the pregnancy! I didn't have to buy too many maternity clothes. With my last pregnancy I started out at 240 and went down to 222 and at the end I weighed in at 235. I actually enjoyed wearing my own clothes, but did have to get the maternity pants because at abou 22-25 weeks I popped right out. The best place I found clothes was at Target, they had the best clothes I could find and they were pretty stylish for plus size. They have really good stuff on the clearance racks and online their stuff is pretty cheap, so you can go and check that out too. I did find a few things at KMart, but not a whole lot, they had the best breastfeeding bras, but that is my judgement.

I just saw this post and was excited to see other people like me :-) I too am a plus size mama to be. I wore my own clothes until I was around 20-23wks along. If you did not know I was preggers you would have thought I was just a little bloated. I have only really started to show in the last couple of weeks. Now each day I get up and think holy crap I have gained another 10lbs over night! In reality I have gained 35lbs and a lot of it is swelling :-( Anyway I would have to agree with another poster on here about getting the clothes from JC Penny they have some nice outfits that are really affordable, especially if you can catch them going out of season and know a head of time what you might need! Another place would be a consignment shop or a friend who just had a baby! I got almost half of my clothes from friends - oh and check out EBAY! Not only for clothes but tons of baby stuff too. I am due on October 24th and can't wait to have my little bundle of joy join our family - our first and its a boy! Another website that I really love is http://boards.babycenter.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?folderId=1&listMode=13&nav=messages&webtag=bcus8404 It is BabyCenter.com's plus size and pregnant boards. They have all kinds of info and boards to post on and it is all plus size women. You can find a post that has only plus size ladies that are due in your same month! They post pics, share stories and it all relates to us!

Good Luck Everyone!
