re: Plus Size & Pregers

posted 10th Oct '07
I am so glad there are others out there like me. I am 25 pregnant with my 2nd child and I weigh 397. Dont ask me how I do not know how I got this big but after I had surgery last year and could not get up and move around I put on a lot og weight. I wear a size 28 or 5x however you want to put it. I find some clothes on lane bryant website and some i can find at a local Catos. Well anyway I am 5'8 so I dont look as big as I am which is good..lol. I love all this cute belly pics and others not hiding the fact that they are not a size 2. I am due Nov. 12 but I am already in the process of labor as you can say I am thinned out 50 and dialated 1cm and the baby and my cervix has dropped and I lost my plug so now it is when he gets here..lol.

Hi everyone!! I just wanted to say I understand where everyone is coming from. I weighed about 170 (5'10") when I got pregnant after losing 100lbs, which I gained while on antidepressants and was finally starting to feel better about myself. However, so far I have gained 40lbs; I am 34wks   I guess my body decided if I wasn't going to work out for 2 hours a day it was going to start putting the weight back on. I know I will probably have to struggle to take it off after my son is born, but don't think it will effect my ability to deliver a healthy baby. The nurse midwife at the clinic I go to is the only one that has been rude to me about it. She infers that the urinalysis and blood pressure check I have to do every time, and when I had to do my glucose challenge was because I had gained more weight than she would have liked, rather than being routine tests. I don't think I really started to show until 7 months or so, but then at 30 weeks it was like I got huge overnight. All of you look wonderful in your pictures!! I will have my husband take some and post them this weekend! It is definitely nice to know that we have each other!

I was kinda bummed because I had recently lost about 30lbs. and was trying to lose more for my wedding that I was planning in March of 2008. When I had my first visit with my midwife she was very very nice and did not make me uncomfortable at all about my weight. I meet my surgeon next week and will continue with her as I will have a c-section. I get most of my clothes from Layne and Bryant and will probably get most of my maternity clothes from there. Avenue has some cute things though.

Just curious as to why you are having a c-section. Is it because of your weight at all? My r. really hasn't said anything about the delivery yet as I am only 24weeks but I am terrified they are just going to automatically say "you need a c-section".

I am having a c-section because that is what I had with my first. I figure that it is just safer to do it again. They are not as bad and scarey as everyone makes it seem. I was ok about 2-3 weeks later. My first was an emergency c-section, they could not get a good read on her heart rate and when they did it was low. Since I was only at about 5 they decided it was too risky to wait. I am glad they did what was best for my baby. Now I have a healthy four year old going on 15

Personally I haven't experienced it, my little man is a kicker and loves to poke around. However, I have read and saw on a really cool special on National Geographic Channel called "In the Womb" that babies sleep 90% of the time while they are in utero.

Alright! Since you had one previously it make sense. I am a little worried just because it's a surgery and I won't recover as quickly. Obviously I will do whatever is best, but I would hate to be pigeon-holed into having one just because I am fat.

First of all I just wanted to say THANK you for starting this post. I'm at the final stretch and it is just now that people can tell that I'm prego and when they find out how far along I am the look of shock on their faces is amazing! I think it helps that I'm just now waddling! Being a plus sized, I know people are affraid to ask just in case i'm not. I have a friend who is due a week after me (she's not plus size) and well when we went to register at babies'r'us together she totally looked prego and of course i didn't. Everyone would stop her and ask her how far a long she was and all these questions and they would just look at me like "why is she registering". The one thing I can't complain about is that the first 9 weeks I was soo sick that I lost 6 lbs and as of today I've only gained 4 of them back. So it really just looks like I'm bloated!
Good Luck to all the plus size mommies to be!!!!

You know I actually was very scared to have my c-section that I almost backed out of it when they were preping me. I was worried about the bleeding afterward. I was sore for about a week, but the best part was that I barely bled and it was only for 4 weeks. Now I did however hate the pad wearing so when I got home and after wearing the stupid things for a week, I switched to tampons even though I wasn't suppose to. I do want a VBAC this time around though and am hoping that the doc will go along with it. I was asked by a few people if the doc will allow that and I am hoping that she does. I will find out tomorrow though. If she says we will do a c-section I might find another doc. Also I want to go drug free, IV free and all, but the hospital doesn't allow the no IV part. My plan is to wait until I am ready to push to go to the hospital and do it all my way!

When I had my c-section last year I recovered pretty fast. I was up and out the day after I came home. Of course it was while I was still on pain meds and I was taking my baby to the doctor for joundice (sp). It was pretty numb where they cut and for that matter it still is. My husband remembers that after I got off the pain meds I didn't like it much. I called and had a refill put on the pain meds. So what I am trying to say is yes it hurt but it didn't really keep me from doing what I wanted to do. I would like to have a vbac as well Sarah but have to wait and ask the doctor on the 17th. She told me last year at my 6 week follow up that it really depends on the body type and location of the scar.

nursenanner - Welcome. I wish you the best of luck TTC. I read this great book that also comes with a software program called Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It has helped me get pregnant both times. You can get the book at most book stores or on Amozon.

I am glad that I am not the only one still numb there. I thought I was the only one! I was home after 2 nights in the hospital and only took the pain meds for 2 days after I left and maybe a few times through out the year because of back pain, come to find out it was caused by my gallbladder and had that removed this year and am feeling good.

LOL I'm glad to see that I'm not alone. I've been on here like a month or so now and had only seen like 1 or 2 plus-size mommies. This is baby #2 for me, although my other one will be 10 by the time this one comes. I'm due Feb. 14th. I've actually been opposite of everyone though. With my 1st pregnancy I was like a size 8 - 10 and never showed a bit..not even a bump!!! This time around I'm in mid-plus sizes and started to show at like 6 - 8 weeks. I'm hoping this one's a boy since everything has been completely different from my 1st. We'll hopefully know for sure at the beginning of next month.   I've also had a hard time finding cute maternity clothes that will actually fit not only my stomach but my boobs too!! LOL So far I've just been buying bigger plus size pants with elastic waist because I hate those big waist bands that are on maternity clothes and have just been either wearing bigger plus size tops or mens tops because they run bigger than women's to begin with. Now that I'm getting farther along tho I'm thinkin it's time to figure something else out LOL god forbid if I have to make myself something to wear, I have a hard enough time just sewing on buttons

I have to run for now, but everyone keep in touch...it's nice to know we're not alone on here.

Take Care,

Lisa

After having my son I weighed 213 and then back in July my highest of 240, I started to diet and am now down to 210 and I was feeling good and just happen to decide to get a test because I was a week late, which isn't rare and when I do buy them I will start that day or the day after, but this time it came out positive and I started to freak out a little. I was angry because I have worked out so hard to lose weight and now I am going to be having another baby. I.

I feel you.... same thing happened to me! This is my 2nd child. my first is 7 and i had gotten all the way up to 260, i brought my weight down to 230 then found out i was preggers!!! But i didnt find out till i was already like 10 weeks!!! My periods were very irregular, i have PCOS. I was upset at first, and I know it will be a while before anyone will believe I am pregnant, I just look fluffy. Im tryin to look at the bright side though, I have ALOT of room for the baby to grow, so maybe it will take up the space I already have and I won't get any bigger!!! THAT WOULD BE GREAT, LOL!

My hubby use to be really skinny, but college he gained some weight. Since I lost 20 pounds the past month and a half, I now weigh less than him! He is so upset LoL! He is over a head taller than me (I am only 5 ft 3in). He is probably going to gain more weight cause with the morning sickness I am not eating all my food and he eats everything left over now.

My doctor told me to gain 0 to 15 pounds during my pregnancy. I am hoping to be able to do that. A little scared though cause I have only been seeing one doctor but the office has 7. So I have to meet with them all before the baby is born. I have never had a guy doctor before (4 of them are men). I am just hoping they are all nice  !
