Hi, everyone
So glad I found this forum. I am 32 weeks and wieghed in yesterday at 246 pounds (I was 219) before I got pregnant. Before being pregnant I gained about 50 pounds. I moved to a new state and for the past 2 years I have been a home body doing nothing, but going to school online, and taking care of my two kids. I have no social life because all of my friends are back home in Georgia. However, I have been walking (even before being pregnant, and could not loose the weight). Now, I am just sad because this is the biggest I ever been in my life. We are excited about the baby, but I am sad about the way my body looks. Oh yea, Im short (5'4), so that does not help at all. My body hurts so bad that I cant even walk for 10 minutes without my legs and back killing me. I heard breastfeeding helps with the weight loss. Has anyone breastfeed and successfully lost wieght after birth?. I know I would have to excerise and change my eating habits too, but has never breastfeed and was wondering how much do breastfeeding actually help with losing weight.

Sorry for the typos..Im on my phone

I am so glad someone made a post about this! I am getting heavier and heavier and it is really depressing. I am getting closer and closer to 297 and it is upsetting so much it is hard to eat or focus, I just get so depressed. I am 33 weeks, so I know I don't have much longer to go, but what makes me mad is I was losing weight before I found out I was pregnant, I havent gained much, but I'm worried that because I have been starting to eat a little more (still not much) the number is just going to shoot up, and I don't know how to handle it.

Okay, sorry in advance but I didn't read all the old posts on this thread. There are thousands!

I am a plus-size first-time expectant mom. I was 5'0" and 202# when I got pregnant, lost 12 pounds the first 10 weeks, and have no idea what I've gained the past couple months (I go again on Monday for a checkup at 20 weeks)!
My goal is to only gain 5 pounds total but not lose any more (this was on advice from a retired birth center midwife). I am afraid I am going to end up gaining a bit more than 5, but I am going to be really careful to minimize sugar and empty carbs (I fell off the wagon for a couple weeks over the holidays). I don't worry about a small baby (the baby will *nearly* always get the nutrition it needs before your body gets the leftovers). My goal is NOT because I am paranoid about getting fatter, but because I want to do all I can to grow a healthy baby and avoid a C-section, and the best way (according to this midwife) is to eat NO SUGAR and empty carbs as that is the #1 cause of unhealthily large babies. She advised me to adopt the following diet (# servings per day):
1 fruit (max) but NO JUICE (too much sugar)
7 vegetables (at least one dark leafy green)
4 proteins (only 1 should be nuts or a snack item)
1 grain (brown rice, oatmeal, etc. not junky breads, pasta and such)
NO DAIRY
NO SUGAR

She had 6 babies and suffered gestational diabetes with some of them and #5 was like 11 pounds, so with #6 she checked her blood sugar before every meal and ate accordingly... and gained exactly ZERO pounds the entire pregnancy and the baby was a healthy weight, not a giant.

I don't need maternity clothes yet at 19,5 weeks, but I am wearing maternity leggings from Motherhood & Maternity and I got some skirts with plenty of stretch in the waist. The leggings are a lifesaver as I don't wear pants except gym sweats and skirts are too cold in winter. I was feeling so much restriction at the waist from my leggings before, and I was miserable after a couple hours max. I just wish they made them with shorter women in mind...

the way you eat doesn't determine you to get a c.section your body nd the baby do. if you're busy is to small narrow or the baby heartrate drops or your body just doesn't wanna dialate is what causes you to have a c.section

Of course those are factors at the time. What I meant about avoiding sugar all along is to try to prevent growing a baby too big to get out naturally. There won't be anything I can do about it during delivery if there is need for an emergency c-section, but there IS a lot I can do now if I am really careful with my diet. I still may end up where I don't want to, but at least I will have tried my very best now.

Not eating sugar is actually a really good plan. You will burn your stored body fat for energy instead of using the sugar you eat for energy. All the healthy food your eating with all the vitamins and minerals your baby needs will go to the baby! And I'm sure you know this includes all carbs like pastas and potatoes and stuff, that all turns into sugar once it goes into your body so avoid those too. Take your prenatal vitamins and eat your vegies, meats, dairy, and fruits and you shouldn't gain much of anything and you will be losing your body fat, growing a very healthy baby!
And of coarse continue to do this when your breastfeeding and you will really lose some weight!
This is probably not recommended for women who are not overweight while pregnant because they wouldn't have the extra fat on their bodies to burn off so they need some of the sugar for energy.

I'm doing the same thing and when I found out I was pregnant I started eating this way more and lost 10 pounds in the first trimester. Now I am 27 weeks and have only gained about 2 of those pounds back. I am hoping to and will probably only gain about 5 more pounds, but if that ends up to be more or less I don't mind, cause its gonna come off easier when I bf!

Hi there. There is comfort in knowing that I am not alone.

I had my first child almost 9 years ago when I was stick thin. After going through radiation and tons and tons of bloodwork...my docs said that my thyroid was good to go to conceive. My husband and I had tried for about a year with no luck...I figured it was because I was too heavy. About 220...but all of a sudden it happened. I am currently 10 weeks pregant.

I can't help but constantly worry. This pregancy is not at all like the first. No morning sickness or nausea. Just tired, gassy, and my boobs hurt. Sometimes I do not feel like I am pregnant, and with this being my first plus size pregnancy I feel like something could be wrong. Just paranoia I guess. We are military and they do not see moms until 10-13 weeks. My appt is still not for another 2 weeks. This waiting is killing me! I just want to hear a heart beat or something. Anything to calm my nerves and keep me from driving myself crazy!

I hear you. I had no morning sickness at ALL and worried a lot all along. My boobs hurt and I had less appetite is all. I will warn you that if you are overweight they may not hear the heartbeat as early. (They still didn't hear mine at 15.5 weeks and I go Monday for a 20 week attempt, but bump is growing on schedule and 11.5 week U/S showed baby was fine.) I was a lot calmer than I might have been when they didn't hear it because I knew stories of others who hadn't heard it when expected. Just resign yourself to waiting. Honestly, if I chose to do it again, I would not see a midwife so soon because all they do is flip me out with false alarms... about not hearing heartbeat, misdiagnosis of low platelets, failing 1-hour but passing 3-hour glucose test. If I have another baby I will only go once in the first trimester if needed (because that is the most accurate dating of baby by U/S), or probably schedule my first appointment at 22 weeks. They don't do anything before then anyway!
