hey everyone! because of my short height (5"1') i am considered overweight (but not plus size). Before I got preggo, I weight 187 lb. After I found out i was preggo, i stopped drinking sodas, coffee, and tea. I have lost a total of 12 lbs- holding steady at 175 lbs. I wear a size 14-16 and a XL shirt for comfort. Everyone is so amazed that I am showing this early in the pregnancy (11 weeks) and this is my first! I dont have the heart to tell everyone that it isnt a baby bump they are seeing, it is my normal belly. all the pictures I see are of real skinny women that look great no matter what- it makes me feel bad and fat.

I to am plus sized and preggo I've struggles with weight my whole life.. When I do begin to loose wright is when I realize I am preggo. Go figure lol This will be our 5th baby. We have and 8year old 6 year old 2 year old and hole your breath a 9month old we are currently 17 weeks and im getting a bit nervous. I've already had an ultra sound and the baby has a strong heart beat in the 160s but normally around this time I could clearly feel the baby moving this one is a different story I hardly feel her move <i think its a her> We go for our next ultrasound on the 13th hopefully she wont be shy to confirm my suspicions. As of right now I'm trying not to worry myself and chalking it up to my plus size. I;m nervous thought because I've never had a miscarriage, I keep telling myself if that were the case I would of noticed something cramping bleeding something... I'm probably just being paranoid I ordered a heart monitor but the post office lost it go figure its been a week and still no result on that but its nice to know im not the only plus sized momma to feel funny about all these skinny women lol I do plan on after this on getting my tubes tied I think 5 is plenty enough and going on a serious diet being as im only 5'2 and currently 231 thankfully ive been holding that for over a month but i know it wont last long

I am glad this post got started. I am not in plus size clothing, but I am overweight and am 8 weeks pregnant. I just feel hugely bloated and the scale makes me want to cry. It worries me that I am already big and am just going to get bigger. Before getting pregnant I was at my peak weight of my life, 197, this was due to extreme stress and poor eating plus no time for exercise, being about to graduate college and married with a life. We are very excited to be having our first child, but at my 6 week appointment when I got on the scale I had already hit 200lbs. This scares me, that I am going to weigh a lot and will not be able to lose it. I am glad I am not alone in the weight struggle. I am trying to be as healthy as possible and hopefully I won't leave my 16 pants size... Thank y'all for posting!

I started at the beginning of this pregnancy weighing 202 and am only 210 now from trying to eat healthy and drinking alot of fluids to make sure I wasn't just thirsty. Keep your head and don't worry about the weight gain right now. As long as you aren't eating junk food nonstop you shouldn't gain too much. I've gained most of my weight in the last few weeks but I lost some in my first trimester.

great topic!
this is my 2nd baby. i am about 5'5''. i was 236 pre-pregnancy, then with morning sickness in the first 3-4 months, i lost 20 lbs, and have only gained 10 of them back so far. I am 32 weeks along. I am still wearing my size 18 pre-pregnancy jeans (although they are getting a little tighter in the tummy and waist), and i have found several cute, cheap maternity tops at Ross, Marshalls, TJMaxx and of course some at Walmart and Target. I think its about time to start looking for maternity pants too. I'm hoping I can stay right around my pre-pregnancy weight so it will be easier to lose after baby is born and I start breast feeding.
with my 1st son, 10 yrs old, my pre-pregnancy weight was 135, and i gained about 60 lbs with him and had a hard time getting it all off. in the last few years, i've basically just become lazy and given up working out or eating right, but I really want to change that behavior and be healthy for both my kids after this one is born.
i'm loving reading and relating to all of your stories. its a comfort that i'm not alone. thanks ladies!

Hooray for plus size women! A am almost 20 weeks along with my second child, my son will be 2 next week. I have had many issues with being pregnant, i had a miscarrage earlier in the year and the dr said it had to do with being over weight. This pregnancy has been a tough one already and they have me on a special diet to "keep the weight down." With my son i didnt show until about the last 3 weeks of being pregnant, even some people still thought i was just gaining weight!
Its great to see that there are other bigger women out there who have the same thoughts and issues! Makes me feel a lot better!

I am currently almost 17 weeks pregnant. This is my 3rd pregnancy, but if all goes well will be my first live birth! I was wondering if there was many plus size women out there. I wonder if I will actually get a baby belly? if it will just look like fat. I was in a 16 and now im back into a 20.

with my first pregnancy, my pre-preg weight was 200. I dropped to 186 with morning sickness and gained it all back plus 25 lbs. That was 2005. I am pregnant with my 2nd, and my husband and I had been trying for nearly 5 years. My pre-preg weight this time was 218, and i only lost 6 lbs with morning sickness, which actually seemed to be worse this time around, but Ive gained the 6 back SLOWLY and at 33 wks I've only gained 12 lbs. My fundal height is measuring 34 cm which im pretty sure is right on target but doc still wants to do an ultrasound in 4 weeks to check on baby. Isnt it ideal for overweight women to gain less weight than normal and underweight??

Hello to all my plus size pregger ladies. I am not currently pregnant, but hubs and I are considering adding another baby to our family. I had my first son when I was 24 yrs old and I was just slightly over weight. My second son I had in May of 2011 and I was the biggest I've ever been. I started a diet, lost about 10-15 lbs. and then found out we were pregnant. We were happy, but I was concerned because of my weight, I also have high-blood pressure. I have been luck enough to pretty much pick when I want to get pregnant, but when I dropped that weight in a short amount of time, it really boosted my fertility! Obviously lol. Anyways, my second pregnancy was completly different from my first, and luckily I only gained 11 pounds the whole pregnancy. Surprisingly I lost weight most of the time. My advice to any of you ladies out there who are plus size and pregnant, is to try to watch your salt intake, if you have a craving just be mindful of how much of that craving you are taking in. I was lucky enough with both pregnancies to crave fruits and veggies, which I know may not be the case for anyone else. But some good snacks are carrots and hummus, fruit in the morning, like apples and grapes, or a bowl of berries. I always had a bowl of oatmeal in the morning and sometimes a banana. I added veggies on my pizza a lot. I craved pizza all the time, but I didn't want to overload on it because of my BP, luckily, I also craved green peppers and onions, and I usually had a salad with broccoli and a little dressing for lunch. The key is to not overload on the "bad" stuff, but if you crave it, your body or baby probably needs it. Like they say moderation is key. And ladies, I know it's hard, but just stay positive. If you keep a good attitude it will always make your situation better. Big ladies have healthy babies everyday, so stay positive and enjoy your pregnancies! I'll be sending all my good vibes your way ladies and wishing you all wonderful, healthy pregnancies.

Oh thank you all for being here! I knew I wasn't alone, but I am surrounded by cute, slim pregnant women in my life and finding clothes that fit pre-pregnancy was frustrating enough... I have been dreading soooo much looking for maternity things.
I hear you on the frustration of losing some weight and wanting to lose more before getting pregnant! I took up walking about 1 hour per day (on what turned out to be the day after I got pregnant) hoping to lose some weight before ending up pregnant... which I found out a few weeks later was futile!
I was 5' and 204 but lost 8 pounds sometime during the 3 months prior to pregnancy and/or during the first month. I have lost another 2 during the past 5 weeks, in spite of no nausea. I will be 10 weeks tomorrow.
I have heard that it is possible to just gain a minimal amount if overweight, and to never worry about the baby not getting enough as the baby will take it before they will let me keep it (I mean, if I am just eating healthy and not trying to be anorexic about it, I won't starve the baby but they can use some of my reserve). I recently joined a private Facebook group a friend invited me to of women just trying to be healthy (they're not pregnant), but seeing their posts about exercise and diet has helped keep me more accountable and inspired/motivated. I just snagged a free elliptical and treadmill from Craigslist on Friday and plan to use these a lot this fall & winter and come out of this pregnancy looking better than when I started!
