The same thing happened to me and they did the transvaginal ultrasound because they said that will be not being 14 weeks that the baby won't show as good with regular one. They did this also to my cousin who is 130 lbs so its not just for bigger women but everybody according the new doctors I have been seeing.
Quoting Angela Bomhold-Karcher:" Ok so im a 1st time soon to be mom! I found out when I was only about 2 weeks along.... now I am almost ... [snip!] ... roll off the bed and go home at that point.... I have looked everywhere for a group like this and im glad I finally found it !!"

Hi I'm new here. I'm a size 16-18..even 20 depending on the brand! I just found out I'm pregnant again. To add the the risk of being overweight, I also have Lupus Anticolagulant, which is made worse with extra weight. Anyone have tips for loosing weight while pregnant? I tried to loose before we got pregnant, but after three miscarriages, I fell into a depression and wasn't able to achieve my goals. I'm motivated now though!

I am 18 weeks. I am also very heavy, carrying most of my weight in my stomach. (I am 5'4'' and 260.) I am just wondering if any of you still haven't or hadn't felt your baby move? My OB is REALLY sucky. I haven't heard the heartbeat, have had one ultrasound that they weren't planning on performing.... I had one ultrasound in the ER when I was 4 weeks (intravaginal) (before the baby had even formed and it was still only a gestational sac.) They did another one at 9 weeks ONLY because they couldn't hear the heartbeat on the doppler (due to my belly.) At my last appointment (17 weeks), the woman used the doppler, and said the baby was "moving too much" and she couldn't get an accurate measure of the heart rate. (Even though I heard absolutely nothing except for "swoosh"ing that could have been my lunch...)
It scares me because I have not seen my baby grow (the ultrasound they took when they couldn't hear the heartbeat was crap and they did it just long enough to see the heart beating) OR heard the heart beat AT ALL... is this normal for 18 weeks? I tried switching to another OB but no one will take me because my "BMI is too high and it puts me at high risk and that is a liability." I feel like I'm stuck.
Has anyone else who is larger experienced these problems, either with fetal movement OR OB?

Quoting Aiemzee:" Sarah and Carmen, I too am plus sized and pregnant (for the first time.) I actually had an embarrassing ... [snip!] ... so I can be "cute pregnant" like you guys are saying. I'm due Nov. 26th but have a scheduled C-section Nov. 19th right now."
I, too, had my right thyroid taken out in 2009. I had also lost about 30+ lbs and was down to 190. The lightest i had been in a long time. I was a little disappointed when i found out i was pregnant, i have gained back all of what i had lost, and bout 8 more, so about 38 lbs, which is a lot less then i did w my first but i wasnt this heavy to begin w w my daughter. I dont have a prob w ppl not noticing i am preggers...my belly is def huge and that besides my breast are the only thing that are growing, well my thighs a little, but i havae always been able to carry my weight decent.

This is great! Now we just need a sight for older plus size women. lol I am 36 and pregnant with my 2nd child. She is our pleasant surprise. My first child is 17 yrs old. I had lost 100 lbs. about 6-9 months before I got pregnant and this was a shock to me. I just kept thinking that I am going to lgain all that weight back and hated the thought. I have since come to the conclusion that its for the best that I may gain some and I have gained about 12-14 lbs. I am 26 weeks pregnant and I have been showing for some time. I guess I just hid my embarassing fat for so long it was wierd when I could tell a difference so early. I asked my dr about how much I was showing and how big I was and I was told that it depends on the woman and her size, if she has had children before, and how we carry the baby in our belly's. So that helped me get to where I am today and I stick out there just like the others lol. I seen a smaller woman last weekend who was pregnant and told my boyfriend that she is due soon because she was bigger than me, I politely asked and she said she was due in January.I am due December 24, 2012. I was so surprised and this made me feel great and not that this woman looked bad because she was beautiful as are all women who are expecting a child. Hope this helps and will talk again soon.. I live in Michigan. Would love to talk so if you want you can message me on facebook at misty clendening, Thanks

Hi I'm also on my second pregnancy and plus size. :0) My first pregnancy wasn't so bad as this one. I don't remember having any problems with the first one and I actually gained alot of weight. This pregnansy is hard on me. I weighed 225 before I realized I was pregnant Now I'm down to 204. I often get bad heartburn and am always tired. I'm 22 weeks pregnant and am concerned with the weight loss. I eat regulary and even began snacking at night due to my weight loss concers. My doctor didn't seem to be concerned but I feel weird about the weight loss.

I'm 17 weeks pregnant and also 268 lbs and haven't felt the baby move. I was told by the ER since I was larger it would be more around the 21-23 week before I could feel it. Hope that helps ease your mind

So I'm back here for baby number two! I'm still plus sized, at a whopping 250 pounds again, about the same as last time with my daughter. I'm currently about 8 weeks, but I've hit a very concerning snag with this one. I'm not sure if this is a good spot to post but since I'm plus sized and being here couple years ago helped with my first, I'll put it here :O
Okay, so, I started having some spotting last week, just some light stuff that I figured was from the internal ultrasound they had done a couple days before. Well it went from a dark brown to a bright red, which was pretty light and only when I wiped. Since I have a UTI my doc thought that was the cause. She told me to rest and take my meds for the UTI and relax. The bleeding suddenly got worse, like overnight went from light spotting to a bunch of blood. I'm not filling a pad an hour (or even four hours), but every time I go to the potty I have clots and lots of bright cherry red blood.
My doctor has me scheduled for an ultrasound on this coming Thursday, and said that since I'm not having a lot of cramps that she can't say if it's a miscarriage or not. When we had the first ultrasound we seen the baby and the heartbeat, everything looked good. So now I'm scared and confused why I'm suddenly having period-like bleeding. I've been having a lot of pressure around my bladder and pelvic area, and a lot of bloating too. My cervix hurts a bit but it did that before the bleeding started.
I keep getting stomach pains but they I have a bowel movement and it stops, same thing for my backache too. It starts to hurt and I go to the bathroom and it stops. My sister in law had lots of bleeding and clots too when she was pregnant and just had a perfect little girl. Am I being too paranoid or should I be more concerned? Have any of you ladies had this problem before? I've never had a miscarriage before, did have pre-eclampsia with my first but no bleeding or spotting then either. I don't know what to do, I really hate this waiting and watching to see what will happen you know?

This is such a great topic. I am plus size, and like many others had just started losing weight and working out again when I got pregnant, as well as have PCOS. I am 28 weeks, and although people who know me can tell I am pregnant, I still am in that phase "is she pregnant or fat" to strangers. I am hoping to gain a moderate amount of weight during the pregnancy, only a couple pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight now, in hopes to feel better after she is born. It is very difficult being heavier and pregnant, like even when I am eating I feel horrible and like I am being judged.

I am overweight, and the killer part is that 6 months ago I had worked out and eaten clean and was down to nearly my healthy goal weight. I gained a bunch because my hypothyroid meds were off. People assume because someone is heavy, we must just be lazy or something. Not at all true, and we can still have healthy pregnancies. I was told to only gain 15-20 pounds, which sounds kind of low to me. My son (3 years old) was 8lbs 9oz. so I'm expecting another big baby! I'm just going to do my best to eat as healthy as I can and try to stay active (bought some pregnancy workout dvd's yesterday!) and taking a pregnancy water fitness class. Might as well keep up my strength even though I can't lose weight! Just enjoy your pregnancy, you have plenty of time to get slim after the little one arrives!

I would go to the ER. I've had three miscarriages and went to the ER with each one the minute I noticed bleeding. They'll so an ultra sound there and then you'll know. I wouldn't wait around.
