re: Plus Size & Pregers

Hello again, ladies! I was just looking into gender determination 3d/4d ultrasounds and saw that heavy set women shouldn't do the gender determination due to it being harder to see things. I am wondering if any of ya'll have been able to do this, while being plus sized. I am only 11wks right now, so I'm not 'ready' yet, but I want to know so bad!

I don't know about the 3D but they told me accurately with a regular ultra sound with my son. The tech was a bit on the fence about my daughter (in the oven) but when she moved and she could see better she seemed sure it was a girl. We did a 3D with my son about 30wks or so and saw everything clearly. I'm not sure if this is what you're asking about but I personally think they go looking for problems when you're over weight and that doesn't necessarily mean there will be any.

We are plus sized, not Majorly obese so you should be able to see 3d perfectly. Women who are really over weight, meaning 200lb over weight make it hard to see the baby because of the extra tissue. I'm sure you will be able to see the baby fine. I had a 2d ultra sound, and the doctor is for sure i am having a girl because she moved and had her little legs wide open. I will have another gender ultra sound to make sure in a couple of weeks, but the doctor at the time told me, if i was having a boy he def. wasnt blessed with family jewels. I think every ultra sound i am going to make sure im still having a girl..

Thanks ladies! This does help ease my mind a bit!

Not knowing your weight, I would also add that I would be considered obese and the regular US found the gender fine. That and the US tech did comment about my CSection scar being a bit hard to see through but she was still 85% positive it was a girl. It will be great, don't worry!

Agree they can find the gender pretty well on women who are 350-400lbs once you go over 400 i would wonder how accurately they can see. I know of a woman who was approx 450 and they told her they were about 80% sure she was having a boy and they were right. I do know though they did have some issues with some of the anatomy due to the weight. I wouldnt worry too much unless your super morbidly obese.

It was hard to see everything on my regular ultrasound partly because of the way baby was laying but also- on the notes- 'maternal body habitus'. Which I think means because I'm fat. I'm 235 on a good day so I don't know. But she was 90% sure we have a girl (but she likes to hug the cord!).

YAY for being a big woman and being pregnant! I am also a plus size weighed 200lbs before i got pregnant, and am starting to gain the weight i lost back.It was very hard for me to lose the weight to begin with and even though i know that gaining the weight back is not a big deal to me my head thinks otherwise. I have come to terms with the whole thing so far and im sure i will continue to do so.

I love this thread!!!! I feel like people think I'm like 4-5 months preggo as I'm a chunky monkey but I'm only 7 weeks. I have gained a bit of weight since being preggo but I truly have an insatiable appetite and eating small meals is helping a bit. I also quit smoking about 6-8 weeks before trying to get pregnant and put on a bit of pounds from that too. I'm glad I'm not the only chunky mom to be at 5'2" and 206lbs
This is my first pregnancy so I'm glad there's a forum to chat with you ladies!!

This is my first pregnancy as well. I currently weigh about 220, and I'm about 5 months along, but with the way I carry all of my weight in my stomach, I look like I'm much farther along than I really am.

I am so HAPPY, i am not alone.. i am a plus size women and i am a first time mommy.. i am 15 weeks along and i can tell that i am pregnant but when i went to see my friends they all looked at me like i was nuts cause they could not tell that i am.. i am also scared that being over weight will cause issues for the baby.. or well i am giving birth..

My doctor said if i eat right, and dont over eat and stay active i shouldn't gain more weight then i'm suppose to during my pregancy, because i was 220 starting out, and i'm 230, and will be 23wks tomorrow.

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself to the group. My name is Beth, and I'm currently 27 weeks pg with my rainbow...we lost twins at 20 weeks in 2007. I am also Plus Size...lol. I had actually lost quite a bit of weight before I got pregnant this time. I weighed 245 lbs and when I got pregnant I weighed around 205 lbs. I have had some trouble actually gaining weight since getting pg, which seems really odd to me, because I have always struggled with weight issues. I weighed 204 at appt last week, so I am right where I started out...lol. I'm actually on bedrest right now because of my previous loss...the drs aren't sure if it was incompetent cervix, or a preterm labor issue, so I am being watched VERY closely for both issues.

Hi, congrats, btw!
I am 8 weeks and I am plus size as well. Myself and my SO were trying for quite a while but I lost 20 lbs and then BAM! I was pregnant. Right now I don't have any concerns, just wanted to say congrats lol

Thought it was just me, but yeah i share the same veiws as all tht have been mentioned, its so hard to get plus size maternity clothes, just aint gonna happen on the high street! im size 24/26 but defo not wearing me jeans now as im 29 weeks. still dont look pregnant unless in wear a maxi dress and even then it aint round its more egg shaped, and if i sit down i just look fat... in fact i got very upset the other day when a skinny girl said to me in front of her friends in my local pub "look at that fat b****!!". I only wanted past to get a orange juice and ended up crying... luckily the landlady is lovely and kicked her out for me. Its so hard though, plus size pregnancy... i already hated how i looked now i just feel as though i look even worse, with all the heartburn and aches and pains, that dont help either. so as i say glad im not the only plus size preggers. xx
