re: Plus Size & Pregers

posted 9th Oct
Yeah for us plus size mommies!! I gained 96 pounds when I had my son and I only lost like half of that in 2 years!   So needless to say I have already put back on 20 pounds since being pregnant this time!!

I feel weird in the maternity section too. Usually they are tiny little things there with big round bellys, then you got me there, just fluffy looking, not pregnant looking.

My nieces crack me up though. They are 8 and last time I saw them I had just found out I was pregnant (was around 6 weeks pregnant) and they kept patting my stomach and yelling "HELLO BABY!". I hated to tell them they was just patting fat at the time, LoL!

Ladies I am so happy to see such great responses. It is just nice to be able to share my concerns regarding being plus size and pregers with other women who actually know what it is like.

I am hoping that this thread can be a positive place for us all to share our struggles and questions. I have been on a few other forums here only to see women turning on each other and being very hateful and rude to one another. I really hope we can all be understanding of each others situations and not be judge and jurry to someone that only needs help.

Congrates to all of you!

Aiemzee - Good luck with your c-section. I think people are so afraid to comment on a plus size women when she is pregnant in fear that they may be wrong and insult us. I would rather someone not say anything then ask when you are due when you are not pregnant. That is really hard to handle.

LadyKiki - I hope the ladies have helped you out with some great ideas on how to get cloths. I also use ebay and have great results. Just plug in plus size maternity and your size and it will help narrow down what you need. Good luck.

brandianne - If it helps you any I am 5"9 and weigh 323.5. I wear size 26-28. I know it is hard but we are all hear to support you. I have struggled the past 4 years with unknown health problems. I was given steroids until I blew up to this size. I was 230 before all my crazy adventure into the world of the unknown diagnoses. Things had been figured out and health was returning when BAM I was pregnant.

brandianne - I will keep you in mhy prayers. I hope everything continues on a healthy path for you and your baby. Good Luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

nellbell78 - Wow twins good luck. Your picture is so cute. Twins run in my family and everyone keeps expecting me to have twins as well becuase all the other girls are done with the baby thing. My Grandmother had two sets. Can you imagine? I guesse we will find out at my first appointment when they do the sono on the 17th.

sarahbeth1899 - What a story I am sorry to hear about your struggles. I hope you continue to have an extremly healthy pregnancy. My husband and I want to adopt in a few years. His sister is adopted from China.

erica27 - I was on the babycenter forums for my first prgnancy and I really enjoyed the plus size forums however my computer is not allowing me ot post on that site this time around. I have a new computer and not sure why. My husband is in computer security feild and i am sure it has something to do with the fact he has put so much security software on my PC.

melzmoda - You have such a cute family. What a handsome little boy.

Nobody's posting pics of their beautiful bellies! I'll be the first, but only if you ladies follow suit! I don't have any really recent ones, but the one I'm posting is at 21 weeks... like I said, with twins I definitely have a huge one!!!

I also get my maternity clothes online. Old Navy and The Gap go up to a size 20, and their stuff is just larger and longer cuts of their non- maternity clothing. Motherhood Maternity has a plus size section, but their stuff isn't as cute as the "normal" sized clothes they carry. Ebay is awesome too!

Ok, here's my husband and I on vacation in California... we were on our way to the babies 1st punk rock show

uggghh! it's almost embarrassing for me to go out in public with my husband (he's 5'10 and weighs 155 pounds) i'm 5'5 and i now weigh 230. and, in my eyes, i still look fat instead of pregnant. i was 204 prepregnancy.

here's some recent pictures (30 weeks):

annddd to make me feel worse, i had been going to the gym ROUTINELY the month before i found out i was pregnant, and i had lost 15 pounds.
i can't breastfeed after i have the baby bc i have to get my gallbladder removed & i'll be on meds for my anger problem.
so my weight isn't going to fall off as quickly as everyone else's.

i'll be getting a gym membership again.

sarahbeth- Thanks for the comment! I don't feel very cute a lot of the time, mostly I feel like a whale   Yeah- post some pics of your previous pregnancy please!

crunkasion- You look adorable in those pictures. You can totally tell that you're pregnant! You and your husband make a really cute couple, and I'm sure you'll have a beautiful baby.

camenona- Thanks for starting this post and congratulations to you too! I'm so excited to have some mommies to talk to that will actually understand that indeed big girls get pregnant too! It would be exciting if you were pregnant with twins too, keep me updated!

crunkasion: Just a question, but who told you that you couldn't breastfeed? I had to have my gallbladder removed when my son was 7 months old and I was still breastfeeding then. What I did was pump enough bottles before hand so my husband would have enough to feed him. Then after the surgery I waited 4 hours and pumped and dumped that milk and I was able to continue breastfeeding. It was the most awful thing holding my baby at the hospital and not being able to feed him until 4 hours later. You can request them not to give you anything that would interfere with the baby after you have the surgrey, such as pain meds. As far as your anger meds I am not sure about those, but there should be something that you can take, just talk with the doctors. Now if you are not wanting to breastfeed then just disregard everything I said. I am now 8 weeks and still happily breastfeeding my son, who is 15 months.
And a side note you look adorable in your pics, I love the one of you and other in the pink outfit, it is very cute.

I'm glad we've all banded together here on this thread! Let me tell you a little about me.

I am Heather, 24 and I weighed 375lbs when I found out I was pregnant. I am 24 weeks exactly today and I weigh 352lbs now. I have lost 25lbs. I normally wear a 26/28 on the bottom but found that wearing a 30/32 is so much more comfortable, I only wear a 22/24 on top. Avenue has a great selection of cute clothes that are maternity friendly. They always have sales and always have coupons.

I wasn't sure we would ever have children as I have dealt with severe endometriosis and PCOS since I was 16. We tried to conceive naturally for 4 years before it happened. I truly feel blessed. It is so amazing to be pregnant.

I am lucky to have a Dr. that doesn't mind my weight and has never been mean because of it, I know a lot of women suffer through that. So far everything is great, ever thing has been spot on.

I thought that I was the only one on here! I weighed about what you did when I found out I was pregnant! I was kinda bummed because I had recently lost about 30lbs. and was trying to lose more for my wedding that I was planning in March of 2008. When I had my first visit with my midwife she was very very nice and did not make me uncomfortable at all about my weight. I meet my surgeon next week and will continue with her as I will have a c-section. I get most of my clothes from Layne and Bryant and will probably get most of my maternity clothes from there. Avenue has some cute things though.

Great, finally! I have been visiting these forums since I was 6 weeks along and if anything, participation was hindered because I had a hard time relating to all of the skinny girls complaining about losing their figures and all!
I'm so glad to see that you guys are out there! Seeing your photos gets me motivated! I'm going to have my hubby take a pic of my belly tonight, and I'll post it tonight or tomorrow.
About me...I am 25 years old, and weighed 241 when I found out I was pregnant. We tried for a year to conceive, but surrendered to the fates eventually - I had bad PCOS a few years ago, and a doctor then told me I might not be able to conceive in the future. But then, pregnant!! A miracle! A blessing in many ways...I actually lost weight because I started craving healthy foods - tons of veggies and couldn't stand sugar for the longest time, that combined with morning sickness. So as I was losing weight, the baby was gaining on me. I'm now 29 1/2 weeks and have gained 7 pounds the whole pregnancy.
We moved across the country when I was at 5 months...my midwives in New Mexico were ragging on me not gaining any weight, telling me to actually eat more fattening foods even when I wasn't hungry! Luckily, my midwives up here in Maine are great - they say some women don't gain, some even lose during pregnancy, and others naturally gain lots of weight. So long as I'm eating well is all that matters.
Unfortunately now I have bad cravings for sugar, and am very sensitive to it, so I make an effort to eat fresh fruit when I get a sweet tooth. Sooo hard...but better than GD.
I too didn't show for the longest time...and when I did, I just looked fatter, not pregnant. Prolly until 23 weeks or so! But then I exploded, and now I look pregnant.
I've been able to wear all of my regular clothes still, but probably only because before I got pregnant I just wore loose skirts and dresses. I did get a couple of giant shirts. I don't wear pants so that helps - I've just been wearing loose dresses a lot.

We are doing a home waterbirth... at first I was worried that midwives might think I wasn't fit enough to handle it, but that's not the case. They encourage me to walk every day, which I haven't been doing   I want to, but have to pee every 10 minutes, especially when I'm standing upright and Jasper presses on my wee bladder. That's no excuse though...
I don't want to scare anyone off with a looong post so I'll end it here!

Well i cant say i was never "normal" size but i was 130lbs when i got prego with my son and i gained 60lbs but by time i had him and lost about 20lbs before i got prego the second time and i think it does make it harder to be overweight and a larger size. I dont know about you guys but i hate my big boobs and they are too damn big and heavy for me. I mean i went from DD to G within two pregancys and im prego again i just hope they dont get too much bigger. Anyways that was problay tmi but oh well you guys know where i am coming from i think.
