re: Husband's stupid family insists on a "K" name

Aiemzee wrote: My husband's family mostly all have K names and he insists we continue the tradition.

It's not that I don't like names that start with "k." The thing is if we were having a boy, we already had tons of K names I liked: Kolby, Keaton, Karter, Kourt, etc.

But, we're having a girl and now all those names I've loved since I was a kid are thrown out the window because we have to follow this STUPID tradition. My sister in law and brother in law in fact keep making sure we're going to in fact name her with a K. (IT'S NOT THEIR KID!!!)

My husband and I have been arguing about it for oh, 25 weeks now (I'm 33 weeks along). I want to name her Annaleise Susan and he wants to name her anything that starts with a K. (Oh- and we can't reuse any of the 36 "K" names that have already been used in the family.) I worry if this is my only daughter I'll ever have, I want to have a name I love.

Today my husband and I agreed on Kayleigh Annaleise but I want to call her Annaleise (or at least "Aleise") and have everyone else call her that too. Then, we've met his family's stupid tradition of a K first name but I also get the name I want to have too.

He is not cool with compromising and expects that he and his family will still call her Kayleigh. It infuriates me that I have to give up my wishes for his family when I'm the one who's having her. What do you guys think?

Thanks for listening.

i say to hell with them. it's your baby, name her what YOU want. what makes YOU happy. forget them. traditions are stupid when it comes to naming babies. if his family doesn't like it, then they can all just shove it. lol.

wow, if that was me and someone tried to force me to name my kid something i didn't like would do just the opisite of what they said. It is your baby and you should name her what you want. No one should be telling you what to do with your special little gift. I feel angry for you ! That would totaly piss me off !

I know where you are coming from..but it not a tradition with a specific letter but my hubby is soo stuck on naming a our first boy his name which is George and not to be rude if anyone else like that name but I hate it...hios father name is George..so he want to keep the tradition going on with first born name George ugh...I love unique names..So I told my hubby that if we have to name our first boy George then that is the only name he is picking andI pick the rest. I pick my first daughter's name Jocelyn and I am 9 weeks pregnant again..if we are having a girl..I am picking Kayleigh Danielle..I like that name it different and very rare here where I live..and Danielle is my name..I thought that it flowed nice.. Good luck!

I think you should name her Annaleise and call her Annaleise. It's a beautiful name. Your in-laws are having the kid, you are. They aren't raising her, you are.
She's your daughter, and I think you shouldn't be coerced into a stupid tradition.

I read this topic and had to laugh! My husband and I just got over our issue of the letter name. He has two boys from a previous and they both start with "P" and he wanted our baby to have the same - his mother was mostly the one pushing the issue. All the siblings in her family started with an "S" and her kids were all "A" - I sttod my ground and told them all that I am the one carrying this baby and I will make the decision. I know that sometimes you have to compromise but give me a break...there are only so many cute names that start with a P and I was not going there....Good Luck on your decision.

Well, from the sounds of it your into more traditional names for your babies but i would be devastated if i had named my daughter something my hubby wanted and found out i wouldn't be having anohter! We woman dream of what we will name our daughters our whole lives and it would be awful not to have your way at least some what!

The first thing i thought of while reading your post was to name her "Kannaleise" or Kaleise! then your getting that gorgious gilry sound you are in love with and they get there stupid letter but you daughter gets to have a beautiful unique name that comes from the both of you!!! See what he says and if he is STILL being a jerk, tell the nurses before you have the baby that you know the name already adn want them to right it down and tell them what to write!! they will all get over it when tehy se how beautiful she is and NOT ALL of his family has K names so you won't be the first to do it!
