Hives?
posted 6th Oct '07
Hello . I am pregnant with my first and today went out for lunch and got shrimp. About 30 minutes later I was trying on clothes at a store and broke out in hives. I have never gotten hives before. I thought I was allergic to something in the clothes I was trying on.
For dinner I had a little left over shrimp and broke out again. I have ate shrimp my whole life with no problem, the doctor said to limit seafood intake but didn't mention anything other than that.
The hives only lasted around 30 minutes each time then dissappeared. The first time they appeared on my face, neck, and breast. The second time they appeared just on my back. Has anyone had problems with food while pregnant? Or breaking out in hives while pregnant?
Thank you

The doctor said limit seafod intake to just a couple times a week cause of the mercury that is in seafood. That was the first time I had shirmp/seafood in a couple weeks. She never mentioned I might become allergic to it or it might give me hives. I will be avoiding seafood from this point on cause that was just scary.

i just asked my doctor not too long ago about seafood and she told me i can have as much shrimp and whatnot i wanted UNLESS it was tuna or salmon. i asked her at my last appt too so im sure its fine.

I have skin allergies to just about everything...antibiotics..and laundry detergent are my biggest culprits...you're lucky that the hives went away after 30 minutes...mine last forever..lol
but i agree that it was prolly the shrimp...even though you don't normally have an allergic reaction to them...sometimes during pregnancy we can suddenly become allergic to something...it's pretty common...it goes away after the pregnancy is over though...so there is hope.
