Question about BH

posted 4th Oct '07
I've had BH contractions for a couple of weeks now. They seem to be coming more often now and I just feel uncomfortable, today especially. My question is, how often do they have to be coming for me to worry about it. I'm sitting down and I still feel like I'm getting them.....I don't wanna call the doctor if it's nothing to worry about because I know it's a natural part of pregnancy, but I feel like they are happening a lot.

If you know it's BH contractions then you shouldn't be worried because those are just fake contractions. If you feel like they are real contractions, time them and you should be worried if they are very strong and consistant. Drink a couple of cups of water and go walk around, change positions and whatnot. That should help you feel better. If you walk around, drink water, change positions and you're still getting constant contractions for more than an hour, you should call L&D and see what they say to do. Good luck, I hope you feel better!

I asked my Dr about this one Tuesday b/c I was getting a lot of BH contractions. He said if they are closer than 8min apart...and you drink a couple glasses or water, lay on your left side, and they still don't go away, you should get checked out.

BH are usually painless tightenings with no regular pattern, whereas Contractions start and become more regular and increase in length and strength. I was getting contractions at 28 weeks every 5 minutes, unsure whether they were BH or otherwise I rang the hospital and was advised to take 2 paracetamols and a warm bath and see if they settled..... they did.

I ended up calling the doctor because I am working/teaching and wanted to know what I should do. The contractions were about 3 minutes apart and the doctor told me to drink a liter of water and sit down. So far, so good. I'm still having some contractions but they seem to be more spread out. Thanks ladies....I was kinda nervous for a little while because they were so frequent!
